Police are hunting down alleged offenders after four fires in a Sydney suburb overnight, with one of the blazes thought to be potentially linked to a shooting last week.

Emergency services were called to four blazes – two house fires and two car fires – in Campbelltown starting from 11.30pm yesterday to 1am today.

Detective Inspector Andrew Mackay at a press conference today appealed for public assistance in identifying those behind the fires.

The string of fires started at an unoccupied newly-constructed home on Towner Avenue in Airds after 11.30pm.

“It was totally destroyed by fire. The owners were looking forward to moving in this week,” Mackay said.

Mackay said police were investigating whether the newly constructed home had been deliberately lit.

A little over an hour later, a home on Briggs Place in St Helens Park was on fire.

A car had allegedly crashed into the garage before it was set alight.

Quick-thinking neighbours rescued a 70-year-old woman from the home, which had been seriously damaged.

She has been hospitalised to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Detective Inspector Andrew Mackay said the alleged offenders were "cowards".

“The faceless men, the cowards, that are responsible for that left the scene,” Mackay said.

Mackay said police were considering if there were any links to a shooting that occurred on the same street last week.

He said it was possible the elderly woman had fallen victim to a case of mistaken identity.

“It’s a definite line of inquiry … the incidents may very well be linked,” Mackay said.

Then, after 1am, a Mazda 3 at Rowley Place in Airds and a Toyota Corolla at Heyson Way in Claymore were both found on fire.

Mackay said the Toyota had allegedly been stolen from Campsie a few months ago.

All fires were extinguished and no serious injuries were reported.
