Police have made a breakthrough into the suspected double murder of two men on the Gold Coast in 2002.

Detectives have spent the past two decades investigating the murder of Frederick Hugh Rosson, aka Charles “Slim” Johnston, at Mount Nathan and the suspected murder of Iain Stewart Hogg at Tweed Heads.

Police have been told a second car, similar to a white Ford Laser sedan or a white Toyota Corona sedan is involved, after receiving information from the public.

Mooney said the white sedan was seen at the Sanctuary Lake Apartments in Teemangum Street in Currumbin about dusk on March 10, 2002.

A witness reported seeing multiple men inside the white vehicle shouting threats of violence while following Hogg’s red Toyota Celica into the underground carpark, he continued.

“A number of lines of inquiry are being examined, and while we cannot go into detail around investigative strategies, we are confident that information in relation to the white vehicle may be vital to solving Hogg’s disappearance and the subsequent murder of Rosson, whereby Hogg’s red Toyota Celica is believed to have been used,” Mooney said.

“We are continuing to conduct enquiries and appeal for anyone who may have information to make contact with us.”

Hogg is thought to have been shot dead on March 11, 2002 in a carpark on Coral Street, Tweed Heads.

His distinctive red Toyota Celica was seen there and it’s believed his body was dumped in the Tweed River.

The 45-year-old was reported missing on March 12 by his elderly mother after he failed to attend his workplace as a manager of a liquor store at Burleigh the day before.

A few days later on March 14, Rosson is believed to have met two men at his home in Mount Nathan to see a firearm he was selling.

Witnesses have told police they saw two men driving a red Celica which visited Rosson at the time of his murder.

The Celica vehicle was found by police abandoned in Palm Beach on March 20.

Investigators believe both men are not involved in any criminal activity and have no known association to each other.
