Police said passengers allegedly threatened the 33-year-old man and demanded his property and vehicle at about 2.25am in Arrabri Avenue at Mount Ommaney.
Officers said the driver was allegedly assaulted in the back of the head while he was driving.
Police are searching for witnesses and CCTV from the Arrabri Avenue area around the time of the incident.
