Doctor Doctor star Ryan Johnson set to star in Channel Seven miniseries The Claremont Murders alongside Kate Ritchie

Doctor Doctor’s Ryan Johnson is set to star as a police detective in Channel Seven‘s upcoming crime drama, The Claremont Murders.

The two-part miniseries tells the harrowing story of a serial killer who terrorised a Perth community between 1996 and 1997.

Dogged police work finally brought the murderer to justice after a 25 year search.

The investigation was first triggered after three young woman went missing in the Perth suburb of Claremont.

The plot will also focus on the efforts of a journalist who followed the case from Day One.

Johnson, 44, will join Packed to the Rafters fan favourite Erik Thomson and former Home and Away sweetheart Kate Ritchie in the hard-hitting outing.

Ritchie’s role was kept under wraps with filming taking place secretly in Perth  in August and September last year. 

A new trailer features chilling scenes from the miniseries featuring Ritchie and Thomson.

The pair appear to be playing Carol Spiers and Don Spiers, the parents of Sarah Spiers, who went missing in Perth, Western Australia in 1996.

They will be joined by Catherine Văn-Davies from the Foxtel streaming hit, The Twelve and Aaron Glenane from Shantaram and Laura Gordon from Undertow.

Andrea Demetriades, Craig Hall, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, Tasma Walton, Joel Jackson, and Tom O’Sullivan are also featured in the cast.

No release date has yet been announced but the series is coming soon to Channel 7 and 7plus. 

Kate has not taken on an acting role since leaving Home and Away in 2013, after playing beloved Sally Fletcher from 1988. 

She also appeared in Underbelly as Judy Kane in 2009 and in Cops LAC as Samantha Cooper in 2010, as well as roles in Mr & Mrs Murder and It’s a Date in 2013. 

Kate has since turned her attentions to a successful radio career.
