A ‘vile predator’ dubbed the ‘Shoreditch prowler’ faces years in prison after being convicted of drugging and raping four women in a terrifying two-year crime spree.

Clement Omoregbee, 37, of Charlton Lane in Greenwich was found guilty of four counts of rape following a five-week trial at Wood Green Crown Court on 14 June.

The ‘violent’ attacker targeted lone women traveling home from bars in Shoreditch, east London between February 2019 and December 2020, in attacks that had ‘life changing impacts’ on his victims.

The 37-year-old who will now be sentenced on 29 September drugged his victims by administrating either GHB or GBL, before stealing their jewelry, bank cards, and phones.

Police arrested Omoregbee near his home on 21 April 2021, following a manhunt, before he was convicted of the rapes after DNA evidence linked the predator to the crimes.

Omoregbee initially denied the rapes during a police interview on 23 April, after he was linked to three attacks by DNA evidence.

He was later charged with a fourth attack in December 2021 after the Metropolitan Police researched the predator’s behaviour and probed their systems for similar crimes.

Although none of the women attacked by Omoregbee knew each other, all four reported a similar set of events.

Two of the attackers victims were initially reluctant to support an investigation, but later engaged with police after DNA evidence linked Omoregbee to the crimes.

A fourth woman was identified after attending The Havens sexual assault clinic in London, where police obtained permission to send off further DNA samples for analysis.

Police also analysed mobile phone records, CCTV footage, witness enquiries and forensic evidence while building their case.

Ahead of his trial, Omoregbee pleaded guilty to six counts of fraud and theft for stealing the victim-survivors phones, jewellery and bank cards and making purchases after he’d carried out the rapes.

Detective Constable Steve Halfhide from the Complex Investigation Team said: ‘Clement Omoregbee is a vile predator who targeted lone women in the night time economy. He has no place in society and is a danger to women.

‘Omoregbee’s violent and disturbing actions have had life-changing impacts on the women he attacked.

‘The victim-survivors have been incredibly strong throughout this lengthy process. I am pleased they have today seen justice.

‘It was important to them all to help protect women of London from any further attacks by this man.

‘All of the victim-survivors suffered extreme memory loss which was not attributed to by any other factors.

‘It was accepted by both prosecution and defence during the trial that there was a possibility it could be indicative of GHB/GBL being administered to them.

‘The investigation teams’ commitment to this case has been incredible, they have all worked incredibly hard and have really been behind this case from the beginning putting in hours and hours of work and overcoming many challenges.

‘I would urge anyone who has been a victim of rape or sexual assault to come forward and report what happened to police. We will support you and take you seriously.’
