Six men have been charged today over allegedly trying to import 10 million illicit cigarettes into Victoria worth about $15 million.

All the accused are from Melbourne and some have alleged links to a suspected Middle Eastern crime family, police say.

They were arrested after a 16-month investigation by the Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police and Australian Border Force.
