A Sydney man has been charged for allegedly stalking rugby league immortal Andrew Johns.
The 28-year-old suspect was arrested twice in three days; first over the alleged stalking of Johns, 49, and then allegedly for immediately breaching his bail conditions.
The man was first arrested and charged on March 31, following an investigation by officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command. He was refused bail.
But the following day, on April 1, the alleged stalker appeared before Parramatta Local Court and was granted bail.
The next day police arrested him again, in Bronte, the Eastern Suburbs beach neighbourhood where Johns lives.
The man was then taken to Waverley Police Station and charged with breaching bail.
He appeared at Waverley Local Court and was sent for a mental health assessment.
He is due to appear in court later this week.
Johns won two NRL premierships with the Newcastle Knights, in 1997 and 2001.
He captained the side in their second premiership success, and won the Clive Churchill Medal in the grand final against Parramatta.
Phil Gould has described Johns as the “the greatest rugby league player of his generation, and arguably the greatest of all time”.
