An 18-year-old man has been charged after an 80-year-old woman was allegedly punched in the face after she woke to her home being raided.

The man allegedly first broke into a caravan at the back of a home on Tuckey Street in Mandurah between 6.30pm and 7pm yesterday and stole several items, according to police.

He allegedly then returned to the property and forced his way into the house about midnight, waking an 80-year-old resident.

Police said she walked out of her bedroom before the stranger allegedly threatened her and then punched her in the face.

She suffered a laceration to her mouth, and bruising and swelling.

The man fled the address.

Soon after police found an 18-year-old man from Pinjarra hiding under a car nearby with the help of the dog squad.

The man’s backpack was found nearby and allegedly contained firearm ammunition and stolen items.

He was charged with a range of offences and appeared before the Mandurah Magistrates Court this morning, where he was remanded until his next court appearance next week.
