Ukrainian woman who fled war to live in Germany is stabbed to death ‘by Jordanian migrant living in the same asylum building’

  • Alina, 21, had been working as a cleaner after fleeing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine
  • Shadi Barham allegedly stabbed her before taking a cable car to a restaurant
  • He then ordered a plate of bratwurst and fries before police showed to arrest him

A Jordanian migrant living in the same building as a young woman who had fled war in Ukraine allegedly stabbed her to death in South Germany before going to a restaurant.

Shadi Barham, 28, a Jordanian national living in the same asylum-seeker complex as his victim, is reported to have stabbed the Ukrainian national in the ski town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen after she moved to there fleeing Russia’s invasion

Alina, 21, had secured a job as a cleaner, but was attacked as she left for work on October 25, having fled her native country.

Suspect Barham allegedly plunged a knife into her before he caught a cable car to a mountaintop restaurant, where he ordered a plate of bratwurst and frites as if nothing had happened.

After finishing his £8-meal, he hung around the restaurant at Osterfelderkopf, a 2,050 meter high venue, according to local newspaper BR24.

But the manager, who had heard of the attack and seen a picture of the suspect, recognised Barham and called the police, who arrived on the scene and arrested him.

Manager Andrew Syme, 51, later told local media: ‘I noticed him because of the strange order so early in the morning. It was funny, but we didn’t think anything more.

‘When I recognised him later on the internet, I obviously informed the police.’

Barham was remanded in custody while his victim was taken to hospital.

However, despite doctors’ best efforts, she succumbed to her injuries a month later, on November 27.

The suspect was first accused of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm, but it is likely he will now be charged with murder in the Bavarian town.

Police have not commented on the motive for the attack.
