Victoria Police said officers were “left shocked” after catching a man allegedly drunk driving with four children in the car on a suspended licence overnight.

The man was allegedly driving at 171km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Western Highway in Pentland Hills, Victoria at 11.30pm on Friday.

Police realised the 40-year-old man, with a suspended driver’s licence, was driving an “overloaded” car which had five passengers, including four children.

Officers allegedly saw a toddler being held in the lap of a woman in the back seat of the car.

Further inquiries led them to breath-test the man from Craigieburn. He allegedly returned a reading of .107.

His car was impounded and is expected to be charged with traffic offences.

Victoria Police said the officers were left “shocked” and “shaking their heads” during the interaction.
