A young child has tragically died in hospital after they were trapped inside a home engulfed in flames in Alice Springs.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Thorold Court in Larapinta just after 10.30am on Thursday follows reports of a house fire.
Firefighters forced entry into the burning home following reports a child was trapped inside.
They searched the premises and dragged out a unresponsive child from the home as emergency responders commenced CPR on the young patient.
The child was rushed to Alice Springs Hospital where they sadly died
St John Ambulance paramedics rushed the child to Alice Springs Hospital where they later died.
Detectives and fire investigators have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Residents and motorists were urged to avoid the area as firefighters battled the inferno.
‘Smoke from this fire may affect visibility and firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside,’ a NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services alert read.
