Notorious fraud Anna Sorokin asked NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo ‘how many times must I apologize?’ in her first television interview since her release from prison, as she attempts to navigate the legal system.

The 32-year-old con artist was granted a $10,000 bail by a federal immigration court after spending 18 months in prison this past October.

She gave her first TV interview to Cuomo from her Manhattan apartment as the host tried to pin down Sorokin about whether or not she was truly sorry for her years as a serial scammer.

Cuomo noted that showing some actual regret would have helped her, as a judge sentenced her to four to 12 years in 2019 after saying she seemed to have no remorse.

Sorokin snapped at Cuomo, saying ‘that did not happen. Where do you have that information from? That never happened, I had the option. Who reported that the judge declined the deal.’

‘The court records,’ Cuomo responded, which led to him asking if Sorokin was tired of being asked if she was truly sorry as he just had.

Sorokin claimed people have been taking things out of context and believe she did everything that the Netflix series inspired by her, Inventing Anna, said she did.

‘You know you did do some of it, you were convicted by a jury’ Cuomo said, noting that all of her appeals have failed.

She argued that her criminal appeal, which has not even been filed yet, is ‘still pending’.

‘I’m not responsible for how fast the system is moving, I’m sorry,’ she added.

Cuomo then noted that the appeal hadn’t been filed, which seemed to annoy the phony heiress further.

‘How familiar are you with the criminal justice system in New York?’ Sorokin asked.

‘Too familiar,’ Cuomo responded dryly, before asking if she had indeed filed her criminal appeal.

Sorokin became fixated, shooting back: ‘Too familiar? It doesn’t sound like that,’

‘Let’s say I did,’ she then said. ‘My criminal appeal is pending. It’s publicly available information.’

Cuomo then chose to move on, asking one more time if she felt that her apologizing would help her get past this.

‘It does, I mean, and I said I regret a lot of decisions I made when I was younger and I think I should be afforded a chance to move on with my life,’ she said. ‘How many more times shall I apologize? I repaid my restitution in full before I was released from prison. How many people can say that?’

Sorokin, also known as Anna Delvey, had her lavish lifestyle as a con artist captured by the 2022 miniseries ‘Inventing Anna’.

The show tells the story of a woman leading New York’s elite to believe she is an heiress to a large fortune in order to bank a personal hoard of cash and goods as she looks to open an art-themed club.

The ‘Soho Grifter’ pretended to be a German heiress with a 60mn euro fortune before she was found out and arrested.

Despite being sentenced to four years in jail in April 2019, Delvey was released on good behavior until she was re-arrested for overstaying her visa.

She has since been on house-arrest at her East Village apartment in Manhattan and has recently announced the launch of a podcast, recorded under house arrest.

Guests are said to include Emily Ratajkowski, Julia Fox and Whitney Cummings, as she discusses ‘what it means to be a rule-breaker’.

Delvey has continued to clash with her former lawyer, who she has claimed failed to turn over records she needs to fight a deportation order and appeal her conviction.

In March this year, Thomas collapsed in court as she faced Delvey in Manhattan Civil Court.

She said: ‘My heart is hurting me! I need an ambulance!’

After a brief delay while the former attorney was wheeled out of the courtroom on a stretcher, Delvey emerged victorious as the judge ordered Thomas to hand over the documents.

Thomas was disbarred in November after she allegedly stole money from an elderly client.

In the new court papers, seen by the New York Post, she referred to this, saying that her disbarment ‘does not negate the balance that the defendant owes’.

Thomas was held in contempt of court and fined $1,000 a day ‘until she either returns the materials or provides and explanation’ as to their whereabouts.

After being dropped by Delvey, Thomas previously sent two batches of the deportation documents in August to Delvey’s new legal team.

However, she allegedly failed to turn over ‘any of the digital audio recordings of (Delvey’s) immigration court hearings,’ according to the lawsuit against her.

The convicted fraudster also alleged that Thomas withheld her personal property, claiming she is concealing the items because she has a ‘vendetta’ against her.

After completing her criminal sentence in February 2021 – for convictions of grand larceny and thefts totaling $275,000, including stealing at least one flight on a private jet – Sorokin was detained for 18 months by ICE.

She was released from ICE custody on October 7. Judge Charles R. Conroy ruled that Sorokin was not a danger to the public and would move to house arrest while she fights deportation to Germany.

She wrote an exclusive piece for DailyMail.com in September in which she complained that the US immigration system is broken, saying she has spent 18 months ‘foundering in the sinkhole of America’s immigration system.’
