Aussie traveller stunned after passenger in seat in front of him started projecting Mel Gibson’s The Patriot onto the overhead luggage cabins during a flight

  • Someone projected a movie during a flight
  • The person behind them in the cabin filmed it
  • They both watched Mel Gibson’s ‘The Patriot’

After flying hundreds of flights one veteran Aussie traveller was left speechless when the passenger in front of him started projecting a Hollywood blockbuster mid-flight.

Douglas Lazic-Kirk, from NSW‘s Central Coast, filmed the moment a person who had three seats to themselves whipped out a pocket projector to begin streaming Mel Gibson‘s ‘The Patriot’.

The image took up the entire surface of one of the overhead luggage compartments, with air stewards seemingly not interrupting the viewing.

Subtitles were turned on so that the entire cabin could enjoy the show but most opted to focus on their own phones, ignoring the free cinema experience provided by the passenger.

Despite flying on over 800 flights, Mr Lazic-Kirk had never seen such a bold display of audacity.

‘I’ve flown on more than 800 flights to 147 countries and never seen anything like it,’ he told Storyful.

‘I’m flying a lot, to see that on the plane just blew my mind. That’s what made me start filming,’ he told USA Today.

The inclusion of subtitles was hailed by some online, who criticised the notoriously slim selection of titles that the hearing impaired can enjoy on airlines.

Others said that it was like a blast from the past to when there was only one screen at the front of the cabin that everyone had to watch.

‘Remember when we used to all watch the same movie on a plane because it was the only one they had? That’s the vibe I am getting,’ one person said.

‘The anxiety I would have had choosing the movie. It’s too much pressure,’ another said.

The Patriot was released in 2000 and revolves around a widowed farmer – Gibson – who decides not to join war efforts in 1776, but changes his mind when his son – Heath Ledger – is captured.
