An outraged mum has demanded an apology and compensation after her 10-week-old baby boy was found bleeding with scratches across his face at a childcare centre.

Rachel* claimed the centre told her it was an accident that happened while Noah* was briefly unsupervised at a branch of Only About Children in Melbourne.

The Box Hill mother rushed to the childcare centre after getting the awful call and being sent photos of Noah’s face, all the while thinking ‘How could this happen?’

Speaking through an interpreter, Rachel said ‘We cried all the way along. We couldn’t believe that horrible thing could happen to our boy. We couldn’t accept it.’

She was shocked at the sight of the images she said Only About Children sent her of her wounded baby.

‘The explanation from the centre is this thing just happened accidentally, but we just can’t accept this explanation.’

She added that ‘there were more than 20 scratches on Noah’s face. How could this happen accidentally?’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Only About Children centre for comment.

Victoria’s early childhood regulator’s Quality Assessment and Regulation Division has been notified about what happened to Noah.

It said in a statement that ‘The service has put in place measures to address this incident, including reviewing its procedures at nappy change times to include an additional educator at these times.’

Fortunately for Noah, when Rachel brought him to Box Hill Hospital the doctors told her his scratches should heal without scarring.

Rachel’s emotional scarring is likely to take a lot longer to heal.
