A body that was pulled from a creek near the Brooklyn Mirage has been confirmed as Goldman Sachs banker John Castic, who disappeared from the New York City nightclub two days ago. 

A significant police presence was seen at Newtown Creek, around half a mile from the Brooklyn club, as remains were hauled from the water at around 1pm Tuesday.

Several large NYPD vessels and rigid inflatable speedboats were first seen in the water shortly after 11:30am, with police confirming several hours later that the body was Castic. 

The 27-year-old banker from Chicago vanished after telling friends he was getting an Uber home to his apartment in the early hours of Sunday. 

The discovery comes just weeks after another man was found dead in the same creek after vanishing from the area.

Police were reportedly first on the scene at around 11:30am, and a small raft was seen retrieving the body just before 1pm. 

In a statement to DailyMail.com, the NYPD said: ‘On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at approximately 1109 hours, police responded to a 911 call of an aided individual in the Newtown Creek located in the vicinity of 1100 Grand Street, within the confines of the 90 Precinct. 

‘Upon arrival, officers observed an unidentified and unconscious male floating in the water. NYPD Harbor units removed the aided male from the water. 

‘EMS also responded to the location and pronounced the aided male deceased on scene.

‘Pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the aided male has since been identified as John Castic. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.’

Castic graduated from DePaul University and begun working as a senior analyst at Goldman Sachs in August 2022.

He and his friends had been to see Canadian electronic duo Zeds Dead the night he disappeared, with the final photo of him shared to social media showing him arriving at the Brooklyn Mirage at around 9pm Saturday.

His friends say he left the venue at 2:30am, and he told them he was planning to get an Uber ride back to his apartment in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
