Terrifying footage has captured the moment a car and truck collide, sending the smaller vehicle hurtling across a major highway.

Video shared by Dashcam Owners Australia this week stated said the collision occurred on the Bruce Highway coming into Brisbane.

The major highway stretches from Brisbane to Cairns in the state’s far north, with the speed limit reaching a maximum of 100kmh in most sections.

Seconds before the flip, a truck can be seen trying to merge into the left lane, before a grey car – believed to be a Nissan model – flips onto its back.

The Nissan is sent hurtling across multiple lanes and appears to flip on its back, before skidding and making impact with the highway barrier.

It is unclear if the vehicle was clipped by the truck before it was hit.

The car then appears to flip back over onto its left side wheels, back onto its wheels, before the car comes to a slow stop on the middle of the road.

In the comments, people questioned why the truck chose to merge behind the grey car.

‘With all the technology we have today, surely there’s something the trucks can use that should be made standard so the driver can see down his blind spots and avoid situations like this,’ one user wrote.

‘Why cant trucks be fitted with blind spot monitors like all modern cars have?’ shared another.

‘That would have been terrifying to be in the car.’

Other users questioned whether the car was in the truck’s blind spot, before it attempted to swiftly change lanes.

‘Looks like a bus more than truck, he really should have indicated for five seconds before merging, car driver should also know there in a danger zone and sped up or back off,’ another user wrote.

‘How hard is it to stay away from the trucks? Don’t sit next to them….’ wrote another commenter.
