A Canadian writer has detailed everything she doesn’t like about living in Australia.
Delaney Hart, who’s now based in Melbourne, spoke out about her ‘impressions of Australia’, in a video posted to social media.
‘Before anyone gets upset, there are lots of good things about Australia and frankly, nowhere is only good or bad, including Canada,’ she said.
The first thing on her hit list was our obsession with pokie machines.
‘I think the pokies are a really good example of how a government can mobilise a vice to get people to think less.
‘To use a pokie machine, you don’t even have to think as hard as you do to use a slot machine, and those are pretty mindless,’ Ms Hart said.
‘There’s also flashing lights everywhere and pictures of fire-breathing dragons, and you sit in a big chair that’s really plush.’
‘The whole thing really disgusts me, to be honest.’
She also called out Australia’s drinking culture, saying ‘people drink so much’.
‘Nobody seems to be having any fun, whether they’re at the bar or a party,’ she continued.
‘At parties, nobody’s dancing. At the bar’s, nobody’s dancing. Nobody’s laughing. They’re playing pool.
‘And if they are dancing, they’re taking their pants off. I do not understand.’
Ms Hart claimed the cost of drugs is outrageous in Australia.
‘People think it’s novel to smoke weed. To me, smoking weed is like going to a store and buying a bag of M&Ms.
‘It’s from the earth. It’s a plant,’ she said.
‘I also think it’s interesting that they call their downtown central business districts, because downtown isn’t just for business. It’s supposed to be a place of culture, community and other things too,’ she said.

Road rage and being stressed about getting parking are also pet hates.
‘I don’t know where everybody is in a rush to, and I don’t know why everyone thinks the car in front of them can hear them yelling,’ she said.
‘The only person that can hear you yelling is me, and it’s p*****g me off. ‘It’s the same with parking – I have met so many Australians that start stressing about finding a good parking spot 20 minutes before we get to the place we are going.
Ms Hart also highlighted the nation’s self-deprecating humour in her list of criticisms.
‘I’m also really worried about their self-esteem in general as a nation because they have the most self-deprecating humour I have ever heard. Nobody can take a compliment. Nobody can compliment themselves.
She also slammed bars ‘who think it’s acceptable’ to charge $22 or more for an espresso martini.
‘Everybody pays it simply because they don’t have anywhere else to go. The charge is a normal acceptable price.’
The video ends with Ms Hart lamenting about the dating scene.
‘No one goes on dates. Australian girls ask me ‘how do you get a date,’ as if they’re not a woman.’
‘And the men I go on dates with, I be myself and the men are amazed, like women aren’t going out I guess.’

Ms Hart’s perception of Australia sparked a mixed from Aussies.
‘I’ve never heard someone describe Australia so wrong,’ one commented.
Another added: ‘I live in Australia but I’ve never been to the Australia you speak of.’
‘You’re definitely with the wrong crowd and wrong pubs mate,’ one woman wrote.
But there were some Aussie who agreed.
‘This is so true Australia is very much all of this,’ one man said.
Ms Hart later shared a follow-up video of the good things she liked about Australia, including the diversity, food, walkable cities, mangoes, the ocean, the ‘chillest people you’ll ever meet’, the cafes, and the libraries.
