It seems as if they ended up missing out on one of the top strikers in Premier League history, although this was not for the original want of trying.

Sergio Aguero says Chelsea wanted to sign him

Chelsea got a look at the Argentine before many of their rivals when they faced Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Aguero himself has now claimed that there was a point where the Blues were interested in signing him, however they failed to follow up their interest.

He said: to ‘The Club’: “After that game [for Atletico Madrid against Chelsea in 2009], my agent told me they were interested in signing me. I love the Premier League, I wanted to play there, but Chelsea never really followed up their interest after that.”

Aguero could have finally won the Champions League with Chelsea

The player himself may well have earned himself the one accolade which escaped him throughout his entire career, with the Blues winning the Champions League twice in that period.
