‘I almost had a heart attack!’: Chase customers complain their transactions are going through TWICE – as banking giant says technical glitch will take five hours to resolve

  • Users say they are now in arrears after their rent payments went through twice
  • Customers in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas are worst-affected
  • Chase said the issue will take around five hours to resolve

Chase Bank’s website is down as customers have reported their transactions are going through twice – leaving some in arrears.

The financial giant said at 8AM eastern time that the glitches were due to a ‘technical issue’ and would be resolved within five hours from then, according to the US Sun.

Customers will be updated about the progress via the Chase banking app or through a text message.

Data from Downdetector shows that those in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Dallas are worst-affected by the outages.

The website analyzes reports of problems in the last 24 hours and found 19 percent of the problems were from web login and 15 percent were from mobile logins.

Issues first emerged at 7AM eastern time, with some customers taking to social media to vent their frustration.

The problem appears to affect those sending money through payment transfer app Zelle.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘Not @Chase sending out all my Zelle’s from yesterday TWICE. Almost had a heart attack. I know this is gonna get fixed but still.’

Another said: ‘Gotta love not telling people that they’re doing a system update which is resulting in a glitch of DOUBLED Zelle transactions.

‘The f****** heart attack I just had, thinking I genuinely had my account over drafted by hundreds of dollars Was an email too much to ask for?’

A third said: ‘@Chase bill pay duplicating payments this morning! Customer service line wait times are more than 2 hours with no resolution to this bill/Zelle issue.

‘WTH CHASE BANK.’

Downdetector figures show that the number of outages peaked between 11am and 2PM yesterday.

But complaints were rising again as of 8AM this morning.
