A pub diner’s pricey lunch bill has sent the internet into a meltdown after he shared a snap of his bank-breaking receipt for two sandwiches and two fizzy drinks.
Leigh Keystone, from Wales, took to X to share his frustration at the cost of eating out in a ‘bog standard pub’, which he chose not to name, in the UK.
Despite ordering just four food items from the menu and no alcoholic drinks his bill came to £32.50.
Leigh fumed that he and his wife don’t eat out in pubs much, but he was shocked at the price of two cheese sandwiches, two portions of fries and two Pepsis.
People shared the customer’s frustration, saying that the price of eating out has ‘skyrocketed’ so many have resorted to eating at home before going out.

Sharing his receipt online, Leigh wrote: ‘Don’t eat in pubs much: Pint of coke: £4, Half of coke: £3.60, two cheese sandwiches: £19.90, is this normal for a bog standard pub? The wife has said if I mention that a half of coke was £3.60 again, she’ll leave me!!’
The cheese sandwiches came to a staggering £9.95 each, with the two sides of chips adding on another £5.
Meanwhile you might assume that a full-sized Pepsi Max would be double the price of a half glass, however there was just 40p between them, with a typical Pepsi Max coming to £4.00.
The post racked up over 230,000 views and gained 700 comments, with one person saying: ‘The cost of eating out has gone through the roof.
‘Me and the wife shared a bacon sandwich at a tea van, she had a tea and I had a coffee and that was just shy of a tenner! We don’t eat out very often nowadays (we’re retired).’
Another said: ‘Unfortunately the cost of eating out has rocketed, it’s going to become a self-destructive cycle we don’t bother anymore, would rather get friends round, spend £30 on snacks or making food than pay over the odds. Prices have gone up, portions have come down, it’s not sustainable.’
Someone else agreed saying: ‘That is outrageous. My partner and I had a delicious three course meal with a small beer and a bottle of wine at a restaurant on the seafront in Spain for €70 last night.

One person said: ‘Yep sounds about right. But before you blame landlords look into what breweries charge to the landlord and look into energy costs. It’s ridiculous but that’s the way the industry is now.’

Another said: ‘Sounds about right. Expensive business running a pub and the food it’s the one area that money can be made with the price of alcohol through the roof. Food cost expensive, utilities expensive, staff costs high and many other costs to factor. It’s not easy.’
Meanwhile someone else wrote: ‘Don’t forget you are paying for being served, the glass, someone making your lunch, the rent, the electricity, the staff serving you, cleaning up after you, the heating, etc etc etc. running a pub nowadays is expensive. Most are just about breaking even.’
