Dave Myers admitted filming with best friend Si King was a ‘dream come true’ in his emotional final TV appearance, which airs tonight.

The TV chef, 66, passed away last month, two years after he revealed he was undergoing treatment for an unspecified type of cancer.

Viewers will see his final onscreen appearance on Tuesday night as the BBC airs the concluding episode of The Hairy Bikers Go West.

The last scenes of Dave and Si together will see them wrap up their incredible journey as they open up about how much the tour meant to them, telling each other they love one another and embracing through tears.

Dave was receiving chemotherapy throughout filming for the 650 mile road trip down the West coast, and as the trip drew to a close in Devon and Dorset, he poignantly remarked: ‘Who knows what the future holds but for the moment, I’m living in the present, and it’s pretty fine.’

BBC Two has continued to air Dave’s final Hairy Bikers series which sees the iconic duo continue tour some of their favourite spots in the UK.

And after the news of Dave’s passing last month, the strong friendship between the pair and their love for adventure and great food seems even more poignant.

In the final series, the pair explored a watercress farm, a rum distillery and Exmouth fishmongers, saving the best until last as they concluded the series with a visit to Michael Caines Michelin starred Lympstone Manor.

As the pair explored the chef’s vineyard, Dave gushed: ‘You know this is such a special trip for the pair of us.

‘You know after the last 18 months and we’ve known you for a number of years now Michael and I can honestly say hand on my heart I couldn’t think of a better climax!’

Sitting down for a meal at the gorgeous restaurant, Dave looks full of happiness as he indulges in the delicious food with his best friend.

Joking he remarked: ‘I feel like I am Cleopatra sitting in a bath of a****s milk, do you know what I mean?’

As Michael confusedly asked: ‘Where did that come from Si?’, the Geordie cook replied: ‘Listen I have had 25 years of this dude, it’s like what similes, I still to this day don’t know where they come from’.

The pair’s strong friendship is clearer than ever, as Dave continued: ‘It’s been about 650 miles this trip.

‘We’ve been on the road now for nearly 20 years you know from the Baltic to Africa we’ve always found something good and also the comradery and friendship around the table.’

Michael teased: ‘Well it has only taken you 20 years to find me but I am so glad you are here,’ as Si added: ‘But you know we saved the best until last!’

As the episode drew to a close, Si reflected: ‘Well we’ve made it.’

In the week following his death, the Hairy Bikers Instagram page announced that they would still air the remaining episodes because Dave ‘would have wanted it’.

A caption next to a photo of the double act next to a steamtrain, read: ‘The next episode of Go West is on BBC2 tonight. Despite such sad times we know that Dave would have wanted you to continue to enjoy the magical series that he shot with Si last year.’

‘We’d like to thank everyone from all over the world, who has reached out with messages of love and support over the last few days. Every one of them has been read and truly appreciated.

Earlier episodes in the series showed Si filming solo as Dave continued with his treatment.

As the TV chef was left without his other half, Si shared some heartfelt words as he reflected on how odd it felt to be without his mate.

He admitted: ‘I genuinely wish my best mate was here because he would absolutely love this,’ before adding: ‘It is odd without him’.

The Hairy Bikers have always been a double act, and Si admitted he felt odd travelling on the bike alone.

‘I didn’t like riding on my own, particularly, but I’m going to take him some produce back and have a nibble. It’s odd without him.’

As Dave returned to visit a historic railway in Portmadog, he enjoyed a lifelong ambition of driving a steam train.

The star explained: ‘When I visited this area as a young lad, Bob would have already been working on these impressive locomotives. Sadly, we didn’t have the money to ride these rails back then, so this trip feels all the more special.’

‘I want you all to know that I have read every single message and comment that you sent… your stories about Dave, your feelings you shared with me mean a lot and my heart is filled with gratitude and love.

‘It amazes me how many hearts he touched and how many people wanted to express their love for what Dave and Si have created for nearly 20 years. I know the Hairy Bikers have been part of your living rooms for such a long time and I feel your loss as much as you feel mine!

‘My husband, David Myers was a larger than life character and he did everything with passion, enthusiasm and generosity of spirit. His energy was endless when it came to cooking and talking recipes, or biking and talking bikes.

‘An amazing storyteller! And through his stories and TV appearances he was constantly inspiring and encouraging people to cook, travel, to live their life to the fullest.

‘An exceptional husband, wonderful stepdad, loyal friend and in his own words, a creator, never a follower.

Their combination of riding their motorcycles to locations across the world and cooking up a storm as they went earned them a loyal following – and also won over viewers with their cheeky northern humour and enthusiasm.

After their first show, the bearded duo went on to film many other series and specials for the BBC, seeking out new dishes in countries such as India, Vietnam, Argentina and Mexico.
