Two people were shot in Manhattan on a busy Saturday night in New York after an argument on the street between three men suddenly boiled over into gun violence.

The attack occurred on West 46th Street close to 9th Avenue in the Hell’s Kitchen area of the city around 5:45pm after an argument suddenly escalated into gunfire, causing tourists to flee for their lives.

Surveillance footage from outside a smoke shop sees passers-by ducking for cover as shots rang out.

The shooter could be seen speaking with one of the victims before walking away, only to return and fire the shots.

The footage sees two men, one of whom is wearing a black jacket and the other a blue jacket, arguing on the sidewalk as people walk by when one of the men turns away.

Suddenly, the man in the blue jacket can be heard saying: ‘What? What?… Stop playin’, bro!’ as the man he was arguing with walked off.

Less then 10 seconds later, the man in black can be heard saying, ‘What’s up, n****,’ before shots are fired, holding a gun at point-blank range.

Video footage from the store captured flashes emanating from the muzzle of the gun as the bullets flew.

Terrified bystanders on the street can be seen darting out of danger.

One man dragging a suitcase falls to the floor and runs into the doorway of a restaurant to avoid the gunfire.

Another woman can also be seen ducking down onto the ground as she attempts to understand what is happening around her.

A second victim was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital by friends.

Detectives are now looking through the surveillance footage for clues as to the identify of the perpetrator.

Ayushma Shrestha, who works at a nearby juice shop, described the incident as ‘terrifying’ and said she locked herself inside to avoid the gunmen.

‘It was like two gunshots. I saw a guy limping. I think he got shot in his thigh,’ said Shrestha, 25, told the New York Post.

‘I locked the door and we ran to the back,’ she explained. ‘That was very scary. I made sure to lock the door so they wouldn’t come in,’ Shrestha added.
