South Korean writer Kang Eun Kyung and director Jung Dong Yoon are behind the new Netflix Original series Gyeongseong Creature, a historical thriller.

Kang Eun Kyung’s work on K-dramas including Dr. Romantic, Forecasting Love and Weather, and Ghost are all well-known among Netflix users. The critically acclaimed Netflix series It’s Okay to Not Be Okay was directed by Jung Dong Yoon.

The K-drama is a collaboration between Story & Pictures Media, Studio Dragon, and kakao ENTERTAINMENT.

What is the Current Status of Production?

According to reports, production is complete.

Production dates are said to have varied from January 2022 to October 2022.

In August, however, filming was disrupted when actress Han So Hee was injured on set, resulting in facial disfigurement. Production carried on without her, and thankfully her injuries didn’t necessitate surgery.

The series has apparently wrapped up now that production has wrapped. That encompasses the process after filming as well. Since the drama isn’t expected to hit theaters until December 2023, we can’t be confident that post-production is complete or that the release date given is inaccurate.

Who is in the Gyeongsong Creature Cast?

At the same time that Netflix confirmed Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee for the lead roles in Gyeongseong Creature, they also revealed that production would begin in the early part of 2022.

The casting of Claudia Kim, a South Korean actress who appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, was revealed by Netflix later in September. Maeda, the wife of a high-ranking official in Gyeongseong city, is the character she will play.

Wi Ha-joon, previously seen in Squid Game and Little Women, will play Gwon Jun-taek, Tae-sang’s best buddy who agrees to help him with his risky scheme to find the missing.

Veteran actors Kim Hae-sook (Alienoid, Under the Queen’s Umbrella) and Jo Han-Chul (Big Bet) were also reported as being a part of the show’s cast, with the former portraying the role of Nawol-daek and the latter as Yoon Joong-won.

What is the Story of Gyeongseong Creature?

While specifics on the show’s plot are scarce as of this writing, Netflix has provided a synopsis of the show’s premise. The historical drama Gyeongseong Creature takes place in the spring of 1945 when South Korea was still a colony of Japan. Gyeongseong, or modern-day Seoul, will serve as the primary setting for the show.

Jang Tae-sang (Park Seo-Joon, The Marvels) and Yoon Chae-ok (Han So-hee, My Name) are at the center of Gyeongseong Creature, a thriller action series in which they battle mythical, monstrous creatures that were spawned from the essence of human avarice.

Tae-sang is well-known across the Bukchon district as the area’s wealthiest, most gorgeous, and most trustworthy insider. To be successful in his role as proprietor of the Golden Treasure Pawnshop, he must possess the traits of fast thinking, strong perception, and sociability. However, he undergoes a period of self-reflection when he begins dating Chae-ok.

On the other hand, Chae-ok has a reputation in the area as a todugun (a bounty hunter and detective who looks for the missing). Her father’s job took the family from Manchuria to Shanghai, and she spent much of her childhood there. Chae-ok’s mother disappeared when she was a child and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

To continue her career and maybe one day locate her mother, Chae-ok was forced to learn survival skills, such as how to use a gun, knives, and other weapons.
