A baggage handler at Heathrow airport has been rushed to hospital after she got her scarf caught in the conveyor belt and was helplessly pulled along the machine.

The woman, an experienced team leader for airport services company Menzies, was unloading luggage from a Loganair flight arriving in the capital from Dundee.

Passengers were getting off the plane while the victim removed bags from the aircraft’s hold, with colleagues inside the Loganair flight unaware of the incident unfolding below.

Those getting off on the side of the plane where baggage was being transported watched on in horror as the handler got her scarf snagged in the machinery and was dragged along uncontrollably, leaving her in a critical condition.

The Loganair employee was then treated by paramedics and rushed to hospital.

Menzies provides handling and fuel services for airlines including Loganair, Thai Airways and Etihad Airways.

A source told The Sun: ‘It was the stuff of nightmares.

‘No one was on hand to help out.

‘It’s a miracle she wasn’t killed.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

‘We were called at 5.49pm on Wednesday February 14 to reports of an incident at Terminal 2 Heathrow Airport, Hounslow.

‘We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic and members of our hazardous area response team (HART).

‘Our first medics arrived on scene in four minutes.

‘We treated a patient at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.’
