A mother of 14 children has died after falling off the back of an e-scooter – in the latest shocking incident of its kind involving the electric vehicle menacing Britain’s streets.

Angeline Bryan was trying to help a friend move house in Nottingham when she fell off the privately-owned vehicle, smacking her head off the concrete and suffering a catastrophic head injury.

Heartbroken family and friends have paid tribute to the ‘kind’ 47-year-old and set up a fundraiser for her funeral.

E-scooters have become a menace to our streets, with the Daily Mail previously revealing how more than 20,000 crimes involving e-scooters have been recorded by forces over the past three years.

The vehicle were linked to 23 trafficking of drugs offences, 44 robberies and two possession of firearms offences in Bedfordshire alone, as well as to reports of stalking, sexual assault and even of attempted murder, according to a series of FOI requests.

And just last month, parents were warned about the dangers of e-scooters after a teenager was convicted of causing a crash that left a biker with potential ‘life-changing injuries’.

Her 14 children, aged between five and 29, have been devastated by the loss and are being cared for by relatives in Milton Keynes, Bucks.

Daughter, Jaymi Andrews, explained how her mother reacted to the fall off the e-scooter.

‘She got up and carried on, although she complained of a headache over the next couple of days,’ she said.

‘It was such a shock to us all. This devastating accident has left us all heartbroken and lost.’

‘Mum was our queen. She was there for all of us and her grandchildren. Everyone who knew our mum knew she was there for everyone, and would put strangers before herself every single time.

‘Mum made things happen, it didn’t matter what anyone was struggling with, she would figure out a way to help anyone whose paths crossed.’

‘She was a funny, kind and beautiful person inside and out and she will be so missed by so many people,’ added Jaymi.

On the third day after the fall, her headaches became worse and she began acting strangely. Her friend was concerned so she called an ambulance in the evening.

Jaymi said: ‘They didn’t take my mum to hospital. They left her where she was and said they thought she was drunk. However, she wasn’t drunk – it was because of the head injury she didn’t even know she had.’

The following morning Angeline’s condition had deteriorated even more. The friend called the ambulance service again and this time paramedics took her to hospital.

‘They gave her scans and found out she had four bleeds on the brain, caused by the fall from the scooter. They performed surgery to try to drain the bleed and put her in a coma and kept scanning her to see what was happening,’ added Jaymi.

‘On the fifth day, Angeline suffered a massive stroke. She was put on a life support machine but sadly did not recover.’

Previously, the Daily Mail sent out and FOI request to 43 police forces covering England and Wales, 21 of which responded.

More than 20,000 crimes involving e-scooters have been recorded by forces over the past three years, with a rise of 60 per cent over the same period.

The newspaper found Bedfordshire Police recorded one of the most severe rap sheets.

E-scooters in the county were linked to 23 trafficking of drugs offences, 44 robberies and two possession of firearms offences, as well as to reports of stalking, sexual assault and even of attempted murder.

Last month, parents were warned about the dangers of e-scooters after a teenager was convicted of causing a crash that left a biker with potential ‘life-changing injuries’.

The girl, who was 16 at the time, was riding her e-scooter outside Letchworth Railway Station on January 7 last year.

She crossed the road at 8.30pm while the pedestrian lights were red and drove into the path of a motorbike.

The biker suffered potential life-changing injuries as a result of the collision with the girl’s e-scooter, police said.

Now parents are being warned by cops about the risks of illegal e-scooters, reminding them they are still illegal to use in public areas.

In another horrifying e-scooter tragedy, Linda Davis, 71, known to her family and friends as Lou, was struck down on a pavement by an e-scooter on Southwell Road East, in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire.

She was rushed to hospital but died in hospital six days after she was hit, despite the efforts of medics, in June 2022.

Ms Davis was knocked down and killed by a 14-year-old boy who was on the two-wheel machine travelling at 20mph.

This comes as people call for e-scooters to be banned outright after police data revealed the shocking scale of thuggery linked to the machines.

Although privately owned e-scooters are banned in public areas such as roads and pavements, they can easily be purchased online without the need to be registered anywhere.

Although their top speeds are supposedly capped at 15.5mph, they can then be modified to achieve speeds of up to 70mph, the limit that some vehicles can travel at on a motorway.

Tory MP Greg Smith, who sits on the Commons Transport Committee previously said: ‘E-scooters, e-bikes and other forms of micro-mobility have been increasingly used in crime and there needs to be a serious approach to cracking down on people’s ability to use them for criminal purposes.

‘A registration scheme would be sensible because that’s ultimately how you’re going to hold people accountable – and Ministers need to get that done as quickly as is humanly possible.’

The Government has also extended its e-scooter trials until May 2026 ‘to allow us to gather further evidence to ensure that any future legislation balances safety, user accountability and market growth.’

Ministers have said they will wait until the tests are complete before they consider tightening up the law.

These trials have been extended three times already.
