House votes to PASS Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s resolution to censure Adam Schiff over Trump-Russia ‘lies’: Chaos in Congress as Democrats chant ‘shame’ and call Kevin McCarthy a ‘coward’

  • A motion put forward by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., to censure the California Democrat failed last week as Republicans were leery of the $16 million fine
  • ‘You honor me with your enmity. You flatter me with this falsehood,’ Schiff said addressing his Republican colleagues

The House voted 213 to 209 to censure Rep. Adam Schiff for misleading the public about evidence of Trump-Russia collusion on Wednesday.

Six Republicans voted ‘present’ and three Democrats did not vote. Chaos erupted when the Democrats broke out in a rowdy chant of ‘shame, shame, shame’ after the vote passed.

At one point Rep. Eric Swalwell, a fellow California member, called Speaker Kevin McCarthy a ‘coward’ and accused him of being ‘spiteful.’

The motion put forward by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., to censure the California Democrat failed last week as Republicans were leery of the $16 million fine it would have slapped Schiff with.

A revamped resolution without the fine – merely a formal statement of disapproval -garnered more Republican votes.

Last week 20 Republicans joined all Democrats in voting to table the measure – enough to send Luna back to the drawing board.

Luna took out a clause that said if the Ethics Committee found Schiff ‘lied, made misrepresentations or abused sensitive information’ he should be fined $16 million. Luna said the figure represented half of the $32 million special counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation cost.

Some of the original Republican opposers argued that provision of the resolution is unconstitutional.

The resolution accuses Schiff of both misleading the public while pursuing a congressional investigation into collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign and for actions he took leading up to the first impeachment.

Earlier Luna ‘noticed’ the resolution on the House floor and Democrats moved to table it – a vote that failed.

Ahead of the final vote, Schiff gave a grandiose address on the House floor.

‘You honor me with your enmity. You flatter me with this falsehood,’ he said addressing his Republican colleagues.

‘You who are the authors of a big lie about the last election must condemn the truth tellers, and I stand proudly before you, your words telling me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy and I am grateful.’

Schiff is currently locked in a tight three-way primary for the Senate seat in California in 2024 – he’s already been fundraising off of Luna’s resolution.

‘This false and defamatory resolution comes at a considerable cost to the country and to the Congress, at a moment when millions of people in our home state of California are unable to find a place to live or afford a place to live.

‘Speaker McCarthy chooses to occupy the resources of Congress for two straight weeks on this hollow stop to the MAGA crowd.

‘The offer gives nothing to those who are homeless or addicted to opioids, or to millions of college students mired in debt.’
