They may not believe in the Australian Government, but conspiracy theorists and members of the ‘Sovereign Citizen’ movement have flooded social media with videos spouting their messages and a rally cry to gather on Australia Day.

Waving flags, singing songs and hymns and chanting slogans, groups often derogatively known as ‘cookers’ have flooded online sites with messages and statements about their beliefs.

Collected on Twitter pages, the videos are a window into the world of alternative thinkers who object to being subjected to Australian law.

In one clip , a man with a loud hailer drives around with friends in a car belting out a slightly slurred invitation for all Australians to gather in Canberra on Australia Day to protest.

Driving by people who totally ignore him, the man yells: ‘We the free people of Australia are to invite everyone for a day of great events, barbecues, and actually expressing out feelings for our great country of Australia.

‘We would love to see all the people of Canberra. We need every Australian now to be one and move forward as this beautiful nation as we are.

‘There’ll be music and barbecues and a lot of good things’.

The conspiracy theory group, Unite in White, chant and hold banners saying ‘expose the 28’, a reference to a dated theory once espoused by former Liberal senator Bill Heffernan that a purported list of 28 paedophiles who were ‘prominent’ citizens of the country.

In one of several videos, about 12 sovereign citizens gathered in the Victorian border town of Wodonga to present a letter to the town’s military barracks.

The man who wrote the letter, addressed several long-bearded men, quoted Martin Luther King and delivered his theory on what the Australian Government was currently doing.

‘You know whenever Pharaoh wanted to prolong the period of “enslavery” in Egypt, he had a favourite formula, ‘ he said,

‘He kept the slaves fighting and that’s what our government is doing now is keeping us all fighting and keeping us all divided’.

In another video, a young woman gives a whiteboard lesson what Sovereign Citizens must do when arrested by police.

The Unite For White rally in Wodonga attracted about 12 people who heard about Martin Luther King and Egyptian pharaohs

On the whiteboard the word ‘sovereign’ is spelt ‘sovrign’. The woman says when ‘if a police officer pulls you over and says “can you show me your licence” you say “happy to answer your question if you answer my question first”.

‘Straight away, you’re switching from the public into the private, you’re becoming the creditor not the debtor.

‘So that takes us into questioning and (then) we say “I am a living woman” or man and the police officers is going to say show me your licence and you say ‘am I a living woman” okay.

‘And the police says “give me your licence” and you say “am I a living woman” and if you ask three times and they haven’t given you an answer and they stay silent, they’ve actually implied consent.

‘So them consenting, yes, you are a living woman, takes you out of their jurisdiction.’

A ‘SovCit’ teacher, who was recently pulled over by police because she had ‘sovereign registration plates’ on her car posted a video complaining that ‘you just can’t talk to police’.

Friends of Daniel Vincent beg that Australians stand with him ‘and all the weary, weary angels  … if you care that hundreds of children vanish in this country each week’.

Mr Vincent has posted several videos of himself and other followers standing on teh banks of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra chanting and waving flags and singing ‘Amazing Grace’ and other songs and hymns.

He also shouts and yells and the group laughs and cheers at the echo of his voice resounding about the lake’s edge.
