• An ugly brawl took place outside a popular restaurant in Melbourne
  • Andrew Fox, son of Lindsay, intervened to break up the violent brawl
  • He later said he saw a woman being punched and had to break it up

The son of trucking tycoon Lindsay Fox sprang to the rescue of a woman involved in a violent street brawl outside an exclusive French restaurant in Melbourne

The brawl took place at around 8pm on Tuesday night directly outside France-Soir, a popular spot in the South Yarra neighbourhood.

Footage shows a woman exchanging punches with a man while several others also trade blows.

Frantic restaurant staff try to intervene before Andrew Fox exits the restaurant and gets in between the fighters.

He is then seen offering one man who was being bashed a handkerchief as the ugly brawl eventually calms down.

Police were called to the scene but everyone involved in the fight is believed to have left before cops arrived.

Onlookers who recorded the violent altercation could be heard recognising Mr Fox, who is a key figure in his family’s LinFox property empire.

Mr Fox said afterwards that he did not want to be called a hero but explained he intervened after he saw the woman being attacked.

He told the Herald Sun: ‘When I saw a woman hit and I’m in the middle of a restaurant and everyone is doing nothing, I can’t do that, it’s not the way I was raised,’ Fox said.

‘When I saw that I got up and I went straight out and said ‘guys stop this, this is wrong’.

‘I didn’t want to see a woman hit and I don’t like guys fighting, I think it is just stupid.’

Mr Fox went on to explain how the restaurant is his favourite and he wanted to support the staff who were intervening.

‘France Soir is my favourite restaurant in the world and all the waiters are great people.

‘I saw this craziness going on and I saw a woman getting hit. I didn’t get involved in what it was about but my pure role when I saw it was to go out and try and sort it out. Somehow it turned out okay.’

‘A woman should never be hit full stop. My father and mother tell me I’m a lover, not a fighter.’

Police confirmed they arrived at the scene just before 8pm on Tuesday after reports of a brawl along Toorak Rd.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said that members involved in the reported brawl had dispersed by the time officers arrived.

Mr Fox oversees his family’s property investments and airport business.

He is believed to have a close personal relationship with Victorian premier Dan Andrews.
