Chilling moment a stranger breaks into a family’s home and watches their baby sleep before opening a bottle of beer and tucking himself in on the couch

A man broke into a family’s home and watched their baby sleep, drank a beer, ate some cheese and played with their dogs before bizarrely leaving empty-handed.
The intruder made his way into Tom and Isabella Ridgewell’s home in Tweed Heads, in northern NSW, on Friday night while the pair and their six-month-old daughter were all asleep.
CCTV shows the stranger lurking through their home, going inside their bedroom and even sitting on the living room couch underneath a blanket.
He ate half a block of parmesan cheese and drank some beer during his time inside.
He was eventually caught by Mr Ridgewell when he returned to the bedroom for a second time, before being chased out of the house with a baseball bat.

Mr Ridgewell said there was every opportunity for the intruder to steal something but instead he left with nothing.
‘He just lay down on the sofa, was tucking himself in, making himself comfortable,’ Mr Ridgewell told Nine News.
‘He’s had half a block of parmesan cheese and just left it, helped himself to a beer.
‘He had every opportunity to take what we have and nothing. It was almost like he was at home, how he was acting.’

Adding to the terror of the night, Mr Ridgewell said he had no idea how the man could have entered his home.
Even after being confronted by the father, the man appeared to be unfazed by the encounter and was seen casually walking out of the house.
The couple called police and were told that they had received reports of a ‘delusional man’ in the area who matched their intruder’s description.
Police said in a statement officers had been sent to canvass the area.
