A hero who rushed to the aid of a distraught young woman being dragged into parkland by a stranger has spoken out, with the man who tried to abduct her still on the run.

Police are continuing inquiries into the attempted abduction of a woman, 20, who was grabbed and assaulted by a man unknown to her in Springfield north of Brisbane on Saturday night.

The terrifying incident unfolded in front of passing motorists, including mother-of-five Seri Qoon, who stopped in the middle of the road and rushed to help.

She recalled how the woman clung to a temporary fence for dear life as the man tried to drag her into nearby parkland near the entrance of Forest Gully Trail.

‘She was holding onto the fence so tightly, she wasn’t going without a fight,’ Ms Qoon told Seven News.

‘I wanted to know she was brave. I ran straight to her and hugged her because she was crying and was obviously pretty inconsolable.

‘And just I held her and said that she’s safe now.’

The young woman was walking towards the nearby Orion Springfield Central shopping centre at the time.

A group of tradies also stopped to help chase after the man as he fled the scene and ran into parkland.

‘I heard one of the guys say, “oh, I got his hat!”,’ Ms Qoon said.

‘And they were sort of waving it around like they got really close to catching him.’

The young woman has been on Ms Qoon’s mind ever since, and hopes she’s okay.

‘I’ve relived it every day since,’ she said.

‘I can’t imagine the torment that she’s going through.’

Queensland Police has launched an urgent manhunt for the alleged attacker, described as aged in his late 20s, medium build and short dark hair.

Detectives also hope to speak to the tradies who rushed to the woman’s aid.

They also appealed to anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV near Orion Shopping Centre between 6pm and 7pm on Saturday night to come forward.
