A lonely California man has been left grieving after his cat was mauled to death by a pit bull which overpowered its owners – who then fled the grisly scene.

Tootie Pootie’s devastated owner Chris Fowler said the ordeal was traumatizing – and is now demanding justice after the nine-year-old cat was ravaged by a dog on Magliocco Drive in San Jose.

Fowler let his cat out of his apartment to get some fresh air on Saturday afternoon when a man, girl, and large dog approached her on the street.

Footage showed the dog leap forward and overpower the girl who was holding its leash.

Fowler told KRON: ‘I have no family. She’s been through some of the roughest parts of my life and meant the world to me.

‘She was my everything. She was all I had. It’s traumatizing.

‘She was so sweet and innocent. It is unfair the way she died. I miss her.’

San Jose Animal Care and Services said in a statement: ‘At this point we do not have any information on the dog owner and the dog.

‘If the owner is found, they may be cited and ACS will pursue a Dangerous Dog hearing.’

The footage has been released in a bid to help identify the owner and the dog. Fowler said that he’d never seen them in the neighborhood before.
