Fire at major Sydney mall as shoppers are evacuated and smoke wafts through the shopping centre

A fire has broken out at a popular shopping centre in Sydney‘s west, with plumes of smoke seen wafting through the store.
The fire alarm was heard blaring through the Stockland centre in Merrylands early on Tuesday afternoon.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia emergency services were called at about 12.45pm with three firetrucks racing to the scene.
A small electrical fire had ignited in a cool room with all staff and patrons evacuated from the centre.

One woman who was in an elevator at the time of the fire was treated by paramedics for shock.
Staff and shoppers were allowed back into the centre at 2.30pm.
One shopper filmed the smoke moving through the centre, sharing the footage to Reddit.
‘What has happened in Merrylands stocklands? I see smoke,’ they said.
A Stockland spokesperson said the fire had ignited in the centre’s Fresh Food Precinct.
‘The shopping centre was safely evacuated, and emergency services attended the site,’ they said.
‘Following advice from emergency services, the centre is now being reopened in stages.’
