The Army is investigating the suspicious death of an absconded soldier’s wife, who was found 10 days after he vanished from their home.

Spc. Craig Chamberlain, 23, is a Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood) soldier who, unbeknownst to his wife, stopped showing up for duty in March.

On May 15, after lying about reporting to the military base in Texas for two months, he left their home in Killeen and failed to return.

Craig’s wife, transgender woman Cameron Chamberlain, reported him missing to police and to the base.

On May 25, she was found dead inside their home. Craig then resurfaced in the area the following day. It remains unclear how Cameron died, or where specifically Craig was found.

Because she died in their home, the Army is leading the investigation and the Killeen Police Department is diverting all questions.

Cameron made desperate pleas to find her husband when he was first reported missing.

The pair married in October 2020 after meeting through a dating app. They moved in together into a home not far from the base.

On May 15, Cameron reported Craig missing to the local police department.

In her statement, she said he had not left her with any money, and had missed so many car payments that their vehicle was repossessed.

She begged him to return to her safely, as did his parents, and was horrified to learn that he hadn’t been showing up for duty for months.

In an interview at the time, she said she was only told by Fort Cavazos that he hadn’t been doing to work when she reported him missing to the police.

On May 25, Cam’s death was confirmed by Fort Cavazos, but no one confirmed the cause of death, nor did they reveal what led to her being discovered.

The following day, Craig Chamberlain was found in the area by a ‘civilian team’.

It’s unclear where he is now.

When he was found, his parents said he had ‘bruises’ on his body.

Cam’s friends fear she became suicidal after being left alone by her husband with no money to pay for food.

‘I have nothing to eat. I’ve been asking so called friends for some grocery money on cash app and nobody can be bothered.

‘The army told me there’s nothing they can do. I’m suicidal,’ she said in one text to a friend.

Craig’s parents have not addressed her death publicly, nor have they discussed their relationship.

The absconded soldier has not yet spoken publicly about where he was either.
