The recent plane crash involving Morris Wortman has been widely reported on the internet. Unfortunately, both the pilot and the doctor on board the experimental aircraft lost their lives in the accident.
Morris Wortman was a well-known OB-GYN based in western New York. He became famous for his involvement in a controversial lawsuit and encounters with anti-abortion activists during his career.
In 2021, he faced a lawsuit filed by a Geneseo woman accusing him of fraud and malpractice. The lawsuit claimed that Wortman had performed artificial insemination on her mother and other infertility patients under his care in the 1980s.
Wortman completed his undergraduate studies with high honors at Brooklyn College in 1972. He then pursued a medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, graduating in 1976.
In 1982, he obtained board certification as an OB-GYN and served as the chief of obstetrics and gynecology at the Genesee Valley Group Health Association. However, in 1986, he decided to establish his own practice.
Throughout his career, Wortman was recognized for introducing innovative techniques in gynecology, particularly in minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and office-based surgery.
Morris Wortman Plane Crash & Accident Details
On Sunday, a tragic incident occurred when a well-known fertility doctor, Morris Wortman, and the pilot, Earl Luce Jr., lost their lives in a plane crash. The accident involved an experimental homemade aircraft that crashed in Orleans County.
Sheriff Christopher Bourke confirmed this sad news, stating that the initial investigation suggests that the wings of the aircraft became detached from the main body during the flight.
The wings fell to the ground in an orchard, while the rest of the plane continued flying westward for about 1,000 to 1,500 yards before crashing into a field behind a residential area.
In response to this heartbreaking incident, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) quickly sent its personnel to the crash site. The NTSB will begin its official investigation on Tuesday to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic plane crash.
Morris Wortman Case Update
The renowned fertility doctor, Dr. Morris, aged 72, and the experienced pilot, Earl Luce Jr., aged 70, lost their lives in a devastating plane crash.
The plane crash occurred when Wortman and Earl Luce Jr. flew in an experimental fixed-wing aircraft. Tragically, the aircraft crashed in a pasture behind a house in Ridgeway, west of Townline Road, shortly before 5:45 p.m. on a Sunday.
One such incident led to a lawsuit in 2021 filed by the daughter of one of his patients. The lawsuit revealed that the doctor had allegedly used his sperm without consent, misleading the patient by claiming it was from a local medical student.
This secret was hidden even after the daughter, who turned out to be his biological child, became his gynecology patient.
Over the past 18 months, numerous individuals have presented similar allegations against the doctor. These individuals claim that during the 1980s, when they desired fertility treatment from the doctor, he covertly used his sperm, thereby committing what is often referred to as “fertility fraud.”
As the community mourns the loss of doctor and Earl Luce Jr., investigations into the cause of the accident are set to commence on Tuesday.
