Oprah Winfrey demurred when asked how she felt about President Joe Biden announcing he’s running for re-election in 2024 as she left Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon.
Winfrey, who endorsed Biden in 2020 and has traditionally supported Democrats despite her one-time friendship with former President Donald Trump, was asked what she thought of the announcement.
‘Come on, now!’ Winfrey told DailyMail.com cameras, seemingly exasperated. ‘That’s not happening,’ she added, seemingly referring to answering the question.
Winfrey was in Vegas to present a remake of The Color Purple, her breakout role, at Cinema Con.
She starred in the 1985 film alongside Whoopi Goldberg and earned an Oscar nomination in the process. Winfrey is a producer on the new film, which adapts the 2005 Tony-winning musical for the screen.

Prior to the 2022 mid term elections, Oprah spoke up for liberal candidates.
North Carolina’s Cheri Beasley, Florida’s Val Demings, Wisconsin’s Mandela Barnes, Nevada’s Catherine Cortez Masto, Texas’ Beto O’Rourke, and Georgia’s Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams were among those to get her support, all Democrats.
Perhaps most notably, she endorsed John Fetterman in his victorious campaign over her former protégé Dr. Mehmet Oz for Senate in Pennsylvania.
‘If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would’ve already cast my vote for John Fetterman, for many reasons,’ she said ahead of the vote.
Winfrey endorsed Biden in 2020, even participating in get-out-the-vote efforts for the Democrat in his successful campaign over then-President Donald Trump.
She famously stayed out of the heated primary in 2008 between then-Senators Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton before endorsing Obama over Senator John McCain for president.
Winfrey backed Obama’s re-election in 2012 and Clinton’s losing campaign to Trump in 2016.
Oprah was famously friendly with Trump dating back to her time in television and is even a part of a recent book the president published.

The book, titled Letters to Trump, will be released on Tuesday and will set readers back nearly $100.
In an interview Sunday, Trump detailed many others who were included in the book, including Oprah Winfrey, whom he says asked – and was granted – a funeral for a business partner at Mar-a-Lago.
He says that Winfrey, like many celebrities, turned on the president when he entered politics.
‘I had a great relationship with Oprah, I had a great relationship with almost everybody,’ he told Mark Levin. ‘But once I went into politics – and I don’t mean I said something offensive, I mean literally once I went in – it changed.’
One of the letters written by Winfrey after Trump sent her a book excerpt from his book ‘The America we Deserve’, which was published in 2000 before he became President. In the book, the former President had written that his ‘first choice for Vice President would be Oprah Winfrey’.
In the hand-written letter, Winfrey writes: ‘Donald, I received the book excerpt. I have to tell you, your comments made me a little weepy. It’s one thing to try and live a life of integrity – still another have people like yourself notice. Thank you, Oprah.’
At the bottom of the letter first published by Axios, the iconic talk show host adds: ‘Too bad we’re not running for office. What a team!’
Winfrey addressed that letter on CBS News with pal Gayle King back in March.

The book includes a hand-written note from Oprah to Trump in January 2000 thanking him for recognizing her integrity in a book he wrote at the time and suggesting that they run for public office together
‘I might have thought it back then. I might have thought it 23 years ago,’ she said. ‘I’m not thinking it today.’
The book, published on Tuesday, will also include letters from Hillary Clinton, Michael Jackson, former senator Ted Kennedy and the late American golfer Arnold Palmer.
The publisher Winning Team Publishing last year released Trump’s photo book ‘Our Journey Together’. That book grossed over $20 million in sales in the first two months alone.
