GOAL!!! Spurs 2-1 Crystal Palace (Romero 80′)

GOAL!!! Brentford 2-2 Chelsea (Disasi 83′)

They have been under pressure, but have found a leveller.

It’s a huge goal as Axel Disasi heads home Cole Palmer’s cross.

Game on, is there going to be a winner?

NO PENALTY for Liverpool

VAR took a look, and nothing given.

Could be a bit harsh, but I can see why it isn’t given. Liverpool aren’t happy.

Jayden Danns then makes a bad challenge of his own, and Forest fans want a red card. It isn’t brought out.

VAR: Possible Liverpool penalty

Jayden Danns is brought down only moments after coming on, and could this be a penalty.

They are reviewing it, it looks like Liverpool have a case here.

GOAL!!! Spurs 1-1 Crystal Palace (Werner 77′)

Timo Werner levels it for Spurs.

It was extremely poor defending from Crystal Palace, who I was praising earlier for the very opposite.

Werner is at the back post to turn home Brennan Johnson’s cross. It’s his first goal for the club.

Can they go on and win it?

Brentford 2-1 Chelsea

Chelsea fans are not happy!

After being in such a commanding position, they have relinquished their lead, and it has not been good at all.

They will need to collect themselves and try and find an equaliser, but I’m not sure they will be able to do that.

Spurs 0-1 Crystal Palace

Matt Barlow, Mail Sport, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

Lovely free-kick by Eze. Won it on the break, foul by Bentancur.

Curled it in. Good shape and pace, beat Vicario to his left, on his side of the goal.

Keeper took a little half step behind to his right as if suspected he was going over the wall.

GOAL!!! Brentford 2-1 Chelsea (Wissa 69′)

That is extraordinary by Yoane Wissa, he has just scored a bicycle kick from 10 yards out.

Brentford must have been given a rocket by Thomas Frank at half-time because they have been brilliant second half, and now they lead.

I’m stunned, that is unbelievable.

Everton 1-1 West Ham

Joe Bernstein, Mail Sport, at Goodison Park:

Redemption is sweet for Beto. The penalty-misser turns hero with a fantastic leap to head in James Garner’s cross with real power

Well, this was written before the West Ham equaliser, but still stands!

GOAL!!! Everton 1-1 West Ham (Zouma 62′)

What a header it is as well, Zouma rises highest and powers a header past Jordan Pickford.

What a response that is by the Hammers!

WHAT A CHANCE! Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

Anthony Elanage has to hit the target.

He is unmarked, 12 yards out, and he fires it wide. That is Forest’s best chance of the match by far.

They should be ahead, warning signs for Liverpool.

GOAL!!! Spurs 0-1 Crystal Palace (Eze 59′)

Eberechi Eze has just buried a stromer of a free-kick, that is beautiful!

He steps up and bends it beyond the goalkeeper, what a way to announce yourself back in the side, oh, how they have missed him!

GOAL!!! Everton 1-0 West Ham (Beto 56′)

Beto goes crazy in celebration after giving Everton the lead against West Ham, he must be so relieved.

It’s not a pretty goal, but he bundles it home and that’s all that matters to him and Everton.

Goodison Park is happy again!

HIT THE WOODWORK! Spurs 0-0 Crystal Palace

Son Heung-Min hits the post.

Spurs are starting to ramp up their efforts now, and it’s Son who has come closest.

It’s a great effort but it flies back off the post. Big chance.

GOAL!!! Brentford 1-1 Chelsea (Roerslev 50′)

What are Chelsea doing at the back?

The Blues’ defence was all over the place there, and Mads Roerslev took advantage.

Chelsea fail to clear Ivan Toney’s dangerous ball into the box, and Roerslev is there to level the scores.

Brentford have come out of the traps flying in the second half!

BIG CHANCE! Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

Brilliant block off the line by Andrew Omobamidele, Andy Robertson looked certain to score.

He throws his body on the line to get in the way of Robertson’s strike which had flown past the goalkeeper.

Huge block, that could be massive in the context of the title race.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool are sticking to their guns for the time being.

If you were Jurgen Klopp, when would you make the first change?

SECOND HALF underway

Right, the 3pm matches are back underway.

Can Liverpool find a goal at the City Ground, or will Forest break their hearts?

It will be interesting to see what happens in these second halves, more goals, please!

Jackson’s Jekyll and Hyde

I was one of the people saying Nicolas Jackson should have scored his easier chance, but in the end, it didn’t matter. For now anyway.

See also  'Was it an inside job?' LA cash vault worker suggests bank robbers who bagged a record $30 MILLION during brazen Easter Sunday heist were HELPED by a colleague - as they're left baffled how Ocean's Eleven-style thieves beat labyrinth security system

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, has shared his thoughts on Jackson.

A big half to play at the GTech Community Stadium!

‘A strangely bloodless first half here’

Tom Collomosse, Mail Sport, at the City Ground:

A strangely bloodless first half here. Liverpool have had most of the ball as you’d expect but there haven’t been many moments where they have looked like taking the lead.

In fact, it’s been Forest who should have taken the lead. Elanga was sent clear by former Liverpool man Divock Origi but could not deliver at the crucial moment as Kelleher saved with his feet.

Anything else to report? Well, the home fans have been none too happy with referee Paul Tierney, who waved play on after Gibbs-White was left on the deck by Konate. When the boot was on the other foot, Klopp leapt about wildly in his technical area when the decision went against his team.

Who’d be an official, eh?

HALF-TIME: Fulham 2-0 Brighton

An exceptional half from Fulham.

Harry Wilson has been key, grabbing an assist alongside his stunning goal.

Brighton have not been fully at the races yet, but they always have goals in them.

Can they come back in the second half?

HALF-TIME: Everton 0-0 West Ham

Well, Everton fans are not too happy, and you can understand why.

The Toffees’ should be leading at half-time, but Beto’s penalty was saved by Alphonse Areola.

Beto will need to pick himself up after that, it can be easy to feel down.

Can they find the breakthrough in the second half?

HALF-TIME: Spurs 0-0 Crystal Palace

It’s not been the best game so far in North London.

However, Crystal Palace fans and Oliver Glasner will be very happy, they look extremely solid at the back.

Spurs will have to be patient in this one, Palace are proving hard to break down.

HALF-TIME: Newcastle 2-0 Wolves

Two glorious goals and Newcastle are halfway to three points.

In this game, we have seen the Newcastle that we saw every week last season.

They have been electric, and St James Park is bouncing. So far, so good for the Magpies.

A long way back you feel, for Wolves.

HALF-TIME: Brentford 0-1 Chelsea

To put it simply, Brentford have been terrible.

Chelsea though, have been brilliant, and deservedly lead in this London derby.

Nicolas Jackson went from missing a sitter to scoring a beauty, he has so much talent and he showed both his sides in that first-half.

Mauricio Pochettino will be smiling, but it’s not done yet!

HALF-TIME: Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

Well, it hasn’t lived up to the hype… yet!

Both sides have had their moments, but perhaps Nottingham Forest will feel like they should be leading at the break.

Anthony Elanga saw his effort saved by Caoimhin Kelleher after being sent clear, however, he may have been offside anyway.

Remember, Liverpool haven’t won in 13 league trips to the City Ground, is it set to continue?

PENALTY SAVED! Everton 0-0 West Ham

Beto steps up, this is a massive chance for him….and it’s saved!

Alphonse Areola guesses the right way, it’s a really poor penalty, he had to do better there.

There is a massive groan around Goodison Park, would Dominic Calvert-Lewin have scored?

PENALTY TO EVERTON!

It’s a first penalty of the season for Everton.

They have had their moments in this game, this is the perfect time to get one just before half-time.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

That’s a good chance for Liverpool, they need to be more potent going forward.

Cody Gakpo gets on the end of a good ball, but rather than going for goal, he heads it back and no one is there to meet it.

GOAL!!! Brentford 0-1 Chelsea (Jackson 35′)

What a way to do it as well, it’s a brilliant header from Jackson. He rises highest to meet a fabulous ball into the area and powerfully heads home.

That is one way to silence your critics.

GOAL!!! Newcastle 2-0 Wolves (Gordon 33′)

What an afternoon this is proving to be for Newcastle.

Anthony Gordon has been brilliant, so far, and he is rewarded with a goal.

The ball falls at the feet of Gordon after Wolves can’t clear, and he smashes it into the roof of the net.

GOAL!!! Fulham 2-0 Brighton (Muniz 32′)

And it’s two, Rodrigo Muniz just gets better and better.

Harry Wilson is involved again as he swings in a lovely cross for Muniz to net with his head.

The confidence is flowing at Craven Cottage.

Brentford 0-0 Chelsea

He has to score, how are Chelsea not ahead?

Jackson goes around Mark Flekken in the Brentford net and you expect him to slot it home, but he can’t manage it.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool are growing in confidence, and Bobby Clark is getting involved.

He first has a shot that whistles wide, before getting involved again moments later, but neither he nor Luis Diaz can get a clean strike away.

The Liverpool fans are starting to find their voice.

GOOD SAVE! Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

Brilliant save from Caoimhin Kelleher!

That’s a big chance for Nottingham Forest on the counter-attack, and Anthony Elanga really should do better.

He is sent one-on-one, he may have been offside, but his strike is saved low by Kelleher.

That was a frightening counter by the hosts.

GOAL!!! Fulham 1-0 Brighton (Wilson 20′)

What a finish that is by Harry Wilson!

It comes against the run of play, but the Fulham fans won’t care, Wilson has just found the top left corner of the net.

He picks up the ball, cuts inside, and then bends one in from distance.

They are on fire at the moment, Fulham.

Spurs 0-0 Crystal Palace

Matt Barlow, Mail Sport, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

Concern for Spurs. 10 mins in and  Van de Ven in need of treatment on left ankle. Has looked in discomfort since making a tackle on Mateta.

Looks like he’s going to try and ‘run it off’ in the old fashioned way.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

Imagine if that went in from Divock Origi.

Forest have been the better side so far and Origi has nearly sent a rocket into the top corner against his former side.

However, it flies just past Caoimhin Kelleher’s post, and he will be relieved.

GOAL!!! Newcastle 1-0 Wolves (Isak 14′)

The perfect start for Eddie Howe and Newcastle!

What a beautiful counter-attack that was by Newcastle which is finished off by Alexander Isak in style.

Anthony Gordon drives down the pitch and Wolves can’t deal with him, he passes to Bruno Guimaraes who has a shot that flies in the air, and Isak heads it home.

Just what they needed, St James’ Park erupts!

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

It looks as though Joe Gomez is playing in the number six role for the visitors.

He is becoming the new James Milner for Jurgen Klopp, he can play here, there, and everywhere. Extremely impressive!

Brentford 0-0 Chelsea

Good chance for Chelsea and it’s Enzo Fernandez.

It’s good play from the Blues as Cole Palmer feeds the Argentinian midfielder, but it’s a tame effort in the end.

A half-chance for the away side.

Everton 0-0 West Ham

Everton have started well and they just had a nearly moment.

Positive signs for the home side as it involves Beto, but he can’t get on the end of a cross into the box, if he had, it would be 1-0.

Good movement though, that will please Toffees’ fans!

Brentford 0-0 Chelsea

This is worrying for Chelsea, Cole Palmer is down.

Oh, actually, he’s ok, that must be a relief for Mauricio Pochettino, he is key for the Blues.

Not too much else to report from here.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Liverpool

A positive start from the hosts, they are on the front foot.

We have already had a battle between Divock Origi and Virgil van Dijk, I never thought I would see the day.

Must be an odd experience for both of them!

KICK-OFF!

All our 3pm kick-offs are now underway, it is sure to be another great day of Premier League football.

Who is going to get the first goal, will we have an early one from somewhere, or are we in for cagey an tense affairs around the ground.

Predictions?

Kick-off is drawing closer now – excitement is building!

It’s set to be an amazing Saturday of Premier League football. Will Forest stun Liverpool? Can Spurs get back to winning ways?

There are so many storylines in today’s games.

What are your predictions?

Sean Dyche: ‘Beto’s been chomping at the bit’

Sean Dyche, Everton manager, speaking to the club website on starting Beto over Dominic Calvert-Lewin:

Dom’s worked really hard for the side, without a shadow of a doubt. Beto’s been chomping at the bit so it’s really just mixing it up and giving Dom a break from it.

We’ve brought Beto in and seeing if, between the two of them, we can be productive. Youssef is doing well as a young player, too.

‘Interesting that Djordje Petrovic is back in goal’

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at the GTech Community Stadium:

Five changes for Chelsea from the team that beat Leeds in the FA Cup in midweek. Interesting that Djordje Petrovic is back in goal – confirms that he is now No 1 ahead of Robert Sanchez – while Ben Chilwell, Levi Colwill, Cole Palmer, and Conor Gallagher come into the XI.

Let’s see if Chelsea score or concede from a set-piece now that we know they’re set to hire specialist coaches for next season…

The return of Enciso

There are many returns in the Premier League this week.

One of the biggest has to be Julio Enciso, who makes his first start in the Premier League since August.

Last season, he was one of my favourite players to watch, on his day he is brilliant.

Will he have his day today?

A familiar face

Divock Origi, a Liverpool cult hero.

The Belgian striker gave Jurgen Klopp’s side so many memories that will last a lifetime.

He won everything with the Reds, but now he is tasked with being one of the key men to stop them from getting all three points today.

He is yet to score for Forest, there is no time like the present to change that!

NOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND - Saturday, March 2, 2024: Nottingham Forest's Divok Origi arrives before the FA Premier League match between Nottingham Forest FC and Liverpool FC at the City Ground. (Photo by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

I imagine Lee Clark feels like the proudest Dad in the world right now!

In an exclusive interview with Craigh Hope, Mail Sport, Clark said: ‘I’ve never felt nerves like it during the final.’

I wonder how the nerves are feeling now as his son Bobby Clark prepares to make his first Premier League start for the club.

‘It’ll be interesting to see where Joe Gomez plays this afternoon’

Lewis Steele, Mail Sport, at the City Ground:

It’ll be interesting to see where Joe Gomez plays this afternoon. He started at No 6 against Southampton on Wednesday and it could be similar here with Conor Bradley at right back and Harvey Elliott on the right wing.

The alternative is that Gomez starts at full back, Elliott in midfield and Bradley on the wing.

Hammers line-up at Everton

West Ham are unchanged from their 4-2 win over Brentford on Monday.

With Lucas Paqueta back firing on all cylinders, they will be flowing forward today at Goodison Park.

Can they build on their thumping win over the Bees?

Everton starting XI – Beto starts

Sean Dyche makes two changes, including the big one of Beto, who comes in for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Very interesting selection indeed, maybe this is exactly what they need to return to winning ways.

Can Beto bag a goal against the Hammers?

Newcastle’s 11 to face Wolves

Palace starting XI – Eze returns

Eberechi Eze has returned to the Crystal Palace starting 11.

That is a huge bonus to Oliver Glasner’s side as he names Eze as the only change to the team that beat Burnley 3-0 last week.

Spurs line-up against Palace

I look at this Tottenham line-up and think ‘They couldn’t go much stronger’.

Yves Bissouma in the centre of the park alongside Rodrigo Bentancur, who returns from the start, is a very strong midfield.

It’ll be interesting to see if this line-up can get Spurs back on the winning side.

Brentford starting XI – Wissa back in

Neal Maupay will not be leading the line with Ivan Toney today, Yoane Wissa will.

Mads Roerselv also comes back in for Kean Lewis-Potter, which is interesting as I thought Lewis-Potter was one of the Bees best players against West Ham on Monday.

Chelsea’s 11 to face Brentford – Chalobah starts

It’s a big day for Trevoh Chalobah, he makes his first league start of the season. After a tough year for him with injuries, it’s good to see he is getting the nod once again.

Conor Gallagher comes back in after his late winner in the FA Cup against Leeds.

It looks like Mauricio Pochettino has gone with three at the back, he hasn’t done that often of late.

Brighton starting XI – Estupinan starts

It’s the return of Pervis Estupinan, and oh how 6they missed him.

I bet Brighton fans are elated to see him and Juylio Enciso both back in the starting 11.

This is a very strong Brighton side, can Evan Ferguson get back to his scoring ways at Craven Cottage.

Fulham line-up – unchanged

Marco Silva has named the same 11 that stunningly beat Manchester United at Old Trafford last week.

Joao Palhinha is still not involved due to suspension, but Willian does return to the squad.

This side will be very confident after last week.

Nottingham Forest XI – Origi starts

Well, well, well, Divock Origi is set to start against his former club for the first time.

The Reds adored him for many years before he left the club after the 2021-22 campaign, and they will be hoping he doesn’t score one of his big goals against them today.

Neco Williams also starts against his former side.

Liverpool starting XI – Clark STARTS

Well, Bobby Clark is indeed set to make his first Premier League start for Liverpool. A huge day for him.

Wataru Endo, Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai all return to the bench for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

With three centre-backs set to start, is it a change of system for Liverpool today?

Endo, Nunez and Szoboszlai off the team bus!

It was reported that Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Darwin Nunez made the squad for Liverpool today, and here they are at the City Ground.

We will find out if they start in just a few moments.

Bobby Clark ‘set to make first league start’

Mail Sport understands Bobby Clark is set to get his first Premier League start for Liverpool.

This could be huge for Liverpool. He’s made an impact in the cup competitions, and now he has potentially earned himself a spot in a league starting 11.

Endo, Nunez and Szoboszlai included in Liverpool squad

Big news coming from the Liverpool camp!

Liverpool are set to have three of their stars back in the fold at the City Ground, a much-needed boost to their squad.

Will they start though? We find out in 10 minutes time!

‘Nottingham Forest are a club in limbo’

Tom Collomosse, Mail Sport, at the City Ground:

Until they know the punishment they will receive for breaking spending rules, Nottingham Forest are a club in limbo.

Will they be deducted five points? Six? More? Fewer? None at all. Nobody knows and all Forest can do is wait.

They’re underdogs here but on their day, Forest can cause stronger teams problems, especially at home. Their first-choice attack of Awoniyi, Elanga, Gibbs-White and Hudson-Odoi is one of the most dangerous in the bottom half of the league.

But can they keep Liverpool out at the other end? With a defence like Forest’s, that feels a stretch.

‘Chelsea need win if they’re to have hope of clinching a European place via Premier League’

Kieran Gill, Mail Sport, at the GTech Community Stadium:

It feels as if Chelsea need to win today if they’re to have any hope whatsoever of clinching a European place via the Premier League. Lose, and it’s all on the FA Cup.

It’ll be interesting to see if Mykhailo Mudryk makes the team – he did well against Leeds in midweek – so Mauricio Pochettino has had decisions to make.

Chelsea haven’t lost in the month of March since 2019. In those five years, they’ve gone through seven managers. Pochettino knows the pressure is on. It’s his birthday today, by the way, so no prizes for guessing the present he is craving.

Goal-fest incoming at St James’ Park?

If you love lots of goals, Newcastle v Wolves could be the game for you.

In their last 17 league meetings, both Newcastle and Wolves have scored in 16 of them, with the only clean sheet coming in April 2022, as Newcastle came out 1-0 winners.

The Magpies’ have had problems keeping goals out of late, so this stat does not look good for them.

It could be a case of trying to get a narrow 5-4 win…

‘If Liverpool are serious about lifting the title this feels like a must-win clash’

Lewis Steele, Mail Sport, at the City Ground:

This has the potential to be a real banana skin for Liverpool, who have not won at the City Ground in the league on their last 13 visits.

That stat doesn’t mean a great deal given Forest spent many years outside the Premier League but the heavily-depleted Reds will need to be at their best to win here. But if they are serious about lifting the title, this feels like a must-win clash.

Toffees are in town

Some smiles, and some serious faces as the Everton players arrive at Goodison Park for their showdown with West Ham.

Sean Dyche’s side will have to mean business if they are to break their nine-match winless streak in the Premier League.

It will be a tough ask as they face a Hammers side that will be brimming with confidence after sweeping aside Brentford on Monday.

Every game is a big game for the Toffees, as they try and stay clear of the relegation zone.

They don’t want to be in a sticky situation come the end of the season… sorry, I just had to.

Must win for Tottenham

Tottenham can make life difficult for themselves sometimes.

Under Ange Postecoglou, they have been brilliant to watch, and are deep in the fight for Champions League football, sitting in fifth.

However, Spurs haven’t played in two weeks, with their last game a crushing 2-1 loss at home to Wolves.

Today is a huge game for the north London side as they face Crystal Palace who are riding a new manager bounce since Oliver Glasner came in.

If Spurs want any chance of catching Aston Villa, who they play next week, they have to win today.

Another important day for Chelsea

It feels like we say this every week, it’s another big game for Chelsea.

We say it because it’s true. Chelsea are a club that needs European football, it has been odd seeing them without it at the moment.

Mauricio Pochettino’s sides’ best route to Europe will be through the FA Cup if they can manage to win it, but there is still a slither of hope that they can clinch it through the Premier League.

However, when I say slither, I mean it. Chelsea will have to win a lot of games if they are to get Europe via the league, and that has to start today.

They face a Brentford side that is in wretched form, but they do like a win against the Blues, especially at Stamford Bridge. The Bees have won three of their past four meetings in the league.

Brentford are in need of a serious turnaround in form, so maybe facing Chelsea has come at the right time.

They both normally bring lots of goals, and I hope they do today.

Forest’s fight far from over

It really is a big day for Nottingham Forest.

While they have had some brilliant moments this season, such as their league win over Manchester United or when they conquered St James’ Park, Forest are still very much embroiled in a relegation dogfight.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit only one place and four points above the bottom three, and a potential punishment looming over their heads regarding their spending rules charge, points are imperative for Forest.

They will want the City Ground to be as hostile as it can be when they welcome Liverpool this afternoon, they will need all the help they can get in their pursuit of three points.

With two sides desperate for points for different reasons, this game has the potential to be electric.

The pressure is always on for Klopp’s Reds

This time last week Liverpool were preparing for London as they got ready for their Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea at Wembley.

Six days later, they return to league action at Nottingham Forest, and it will feel just as important to Jurgen Klopp and his team.

In this three-pronged title race, you just can’t slip up. Liverpool have the initiative and if they want to keep it, they simply must keep winning.

It has been well reported that Liverpool are suffering a severe injury crisis, which they have dealt with very well, but today we may see a few faces return to the fray. Which ones though?

However, Forest will feel this is still a great time to face Liverpool. They managed to stun them at the City Ground last year, and they will believe they can stop Klopp’s side in their tracks once again.

Today’s plan of action

You can probably tell by my opening post that I am very excited about today’s 3pm, I’m sure all of you are feeling exactly the same way.

Let’s have a look at the six fixtures that we will be bringing you live updates of in today’s live blog.

  • Nottingham Forest v Liverpool
  • Brentford v Chelsea
  • Everton v West Ham
  • Fulham v Brighton
  • Newcastle v Wolves
  • Tottenham v Crystal Palace

Which game are you looking forward to most?

Good afternoon!

Oh boy, we have a cracker of a day in store for you today.

When was the last time you can remember there being SIX Premier League 3pm kick-offs? Well, there are that many today.

It feels like the good old days, Saturday 3pm kick-offs are a staple within the English game, and when we have six of them it just feels right.

Among those games are some very palatable fixtures, including a trip to the East Midlands for the league leaders, Liverpool. Once again, no one has a Scooby whom Jurgen Klopp will select at the City Ground.

The title race, the battle for the top four, and the fight against relegation, all will very much be impacted by some of today’s results. I feel it will be another intriguing day of top-flight action.

Let’s get into it then, shall we?
