Man, 63, dies after allegedly being brutally bashed by a teenager – just days after his family were dealt another cruel blow
A 63-year-old man has died in hospital months after being brutally bashed, allegedly by a teenager.
Richard Matthews suffered critical brain injuries after the assault about 100 metres from his home in Innisfail, Queensland, on April 10.
He died at Innisfail Hospital over the weekend.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with causing grievous bodily harm following the incident and at this stage the charge remains unchanged in light of Mr Matthews’ death.
Mr Matthews appeared to be showing signs of a recovery but took a turn for the worse after his brother Bill unexpectedly died from a stroke earlier this month.
‘It’s a pretty devastating time for our family,’ Mr Matthews’ nephew Kodi told the Cairns Post.
‘I believe the stress of Richie being injured contributed to my father having a stroke. Dad was travelling from Cairns to Innisfail every second day to see him.’
He added that the ‘random attack’ had ‘ripped his family apart’.
Mr Matthews was a big rugby league fan and supported Manly.
