Hollywood legend Rita Moreno declared to shock and sadness this week that she doesn’t have ‘many friends’ and certainly not in Hollywood, after being betrayed and hurt be women too many times.
Moreno, 91, made the saddening confession in an interview with CBS. She was promoting her new project, 80 for Brady – a movie about four, real-life Tom Brady fanatics who all happen to be women over the age of 80.
Moreno stars in the film alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Sally Field, who were also present for the sit-down.
‘I don’t have many friends, and I don’t have many friends in show business, either.

Moreno was being interviewed alongside Sally Field, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, who were all shocked by her comments
‘I don’t trust ’em. I’ve been betrayed so many times by them, and by my stupid insistence on believing in people who really were not very nice to me,’ said Moreno soberly.
Her comments silenced the room for a moment before Tomlin, crestfallen, said: ‘I’m sorry, Rita.’
Fonda, more firmly, vowed: ‘We’re going to do something about that. We’re going to show you that there are three women here who you can trust’.
She replied: ‘The thing is, I do trust you.’
It was a touching moment between four Hollywood icons but left the interviewer – and viewers – shocked.
Moreno didn’t go into detail about who had hurt her.
She burst onto the movie scene in 1952 with her dazzling performance as Zelda Zanders in Singing In The Rain. Next came her enchanting performance in The King and I.

She is best known for her 1961 role as Anita in West Side Story.
In that role, Moreno sang, danced and acted her way to an Oscar with her portrayal of the energetic, vivacious Anita next to Nathalie Wood’s sweet, soft Maria.
In the years that followed, she would go on to star opposite Marlon Brando and James Garner.
She progressed to TV series, and is one of the few actors in history to win an EGOT – Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony, after starring on Broadway too.
Moreno suffered heartache during her tumultuous relationship with Marlon Brando, and even attempted suicide at one point.
She wrote in her recent memoir how she’d fallen pregnant by him during their 1950s romance, and how he paid for a botched abortion that led her to bleed ‘for days.’
In 1965, she married cardiologist Leonard Gordon.
The pair stayed together until his death in 2010, and had one daughter together.
