A 13-year-old was put into an induced coma after he was hit by a car while he was riding his bicycle to a friend’s house.
The schoolboy was rushed to the hospital with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain on Thursday, February, 23, at 1.25pm.
The teenager, who is now fighting for his life, was struck by a blue Mini Cooper at the junction of Leeds Road and Muffit Lane in Heckmondwike.
The motorist has spoken to the police and witnesses are being asked to come forward.
The little boy’s mother, who does not want to be named, said people have been supporting the family but some people had made ‘false comments’ which were not helpful.

West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Emergency services attended and the 13-year-old was taken to hospital with serious head injuries. ‘He remains in hospital today where his condition is said to be critical. The driver of the Mini has been spoken to’
She told Yorkshire Live: ‘He was put into a medically induced coma as the accident resulted in head injuries such as a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain, but the collision is not the cause of the coma. The medically induced coma is for his safety.
‘Friends have been supporting us and we have had well-wishers.
‘We have also had speculation and false comments such as saying he’s passed away, which isn’t appreciated as family members have seen these and thought that he had passed away which isn’t true.’
A family friend said: ‘(The) young boy is fighting and (has) not passed away – people make me sick saying stuff.’
Police are appealing for any information from witnesses or those who have footage and can assist in the investigation. People are being asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or get in touch via the 101LiveChat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.
In a statement on Friday, West Yorkshire Police said: ‘Police are appealing for information following a serious road traffic collision in Kirklees yesterday (Thursday).
‘At 1.25pm, police received a report of a collision involving a blue Mini Cooper saloon and a boy on a pedal cycle at the junction of Leeds Road and Muffit Lane, Heckmondwike.
‘Emergency services attended and the 13-year-old was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.
‘He remains in hospital today where his condition is said to be critical. The driver of the Mini has been spoken to.’ The log reference is 0767 of February 23.
