A security guard was beaten to death by a mob of at least nine people over the weekend – directly outside the nightclub where he worked.

The incident happened around 2am Sunday in Hollywood, at the popular Dragonfly club on Santa Monica Boulevard. Cops are still searching for the suspects.

The victim, only identified as a male in his 30s, is seen lying on the street in video captured from the scene, which showed first responders attempting life-saving measures on the man before ultimately proving unsuccessful.

Witnesses reported the confrontation occurred after members of the still-at-large group began to beat and stomp the security guard during a heated encounter while the victim was attempting to work the door.

Once he fell to the ground, the group of at least nine quickly dispersed, and the man was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Cops are currently probing the encounter at the hip-hop-heavy bar, which in past has played host to Tyga, 2 Chainz, Migos, Meg Thee Stallion, and Wiz Khalifa.

‘The victim was working at this nightclub, and a large group – for unknown reasons – confronted that security guard, causing him to fall into the street,’ LAPD West Bureau Homicide Division Detective Samuel Marullo said at the scene Sunday.

‘At which time the group advanced and kicked and stomped him to death,’ the officer added, revealing the force’s investigation was still in the process of  determining whether the fight began inside the club and spilled onto the street, or started outside.

Now closed to mourn the loss of their fallen employee, Dragonfly had been full of patrons at the time of the fatal altercation – hosting its weekly Signature Saturdays with Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley headlining the festivities.

According to cops, the encounter happened just as the event was scheduled to finish, around 2am.

The club – which offers paying patrons both VIP seating and bottle service – also hosts an event on Sundays called Sunday Night Fever, which was called off in the wake of the unnamed staffer’s brutal death.

A post to the nightclub’s Instagram announced the change, as cops said they were continuing to search for at least nine people believed to be responsible.

Aired at around 10:00pm – the time the bar usually opens – the announcement read: ‘As we begin to process and mourn the loss of our colleague, Dragonfly will be closed.

‘Our hearts are with his family at this time.’

Dozens of witnesses are now recounting how they remember the attack to police, with all so far saying they were unsure how the initial argument broke out.

Several have also told cops that they are unsure whether the group that dished out the assault – believed to be nine but could be as many as 11 – had been one single group, or if others got involved as the mayhem unfolded.

Speaking to local news outlets Sunday as this search was underway, Detective Marullo said: ‘We’re exploring and canvasing the neighborhood to determine which cameras are operable, in order to view them.

‘But one thing we know,’ he added, ‘was that there was a lot of people present – a lot of people on the street – many of whom left the scene prior to police arriving.’

Witness who have spoken to police have said they saw an initial verbal disagreement between the at least two parties devolve into violence when members of the group began approaching the unidentified victim, who then fell on the floor.

At that point, as cops said in their statement, a barrage of kicks, punches, and other blows commenced, leaving the victim unconscious.

Officers and EMS workers reportedly arrived on the scene within minutes, but were not able to apprehend any of the victims, nor were they able to save the staffer.

Speaking to ABC 7 Sunday, Marullo explained how members of his force are now asking for anyone who may have seen or recorded the incident to come forward.

‘We know that oftentimes people will record these types of incidents on their cellphone,’ he said, as cops on Monday morning had yet to make an arrest or glean a motive in relation to the altercation.

‘We would encourage them to share that with us as it can help bring a sense of justice to this person’s family.’

As mentioned before, the club – which bills itself as the ‘most popular Hip Hop night club scene Los Angeles has to offer’ – remained closed Sunday night and Monday morning in the aftermath of the incident.

Cops investigation is still ongoing. DailyMail.com has reached out to both the LAPD and Dragonfly Hollywood for comment. The victim’s body is currently with the city’s coroner.
