A South London hospital’s giant three-sided rainbow flag has been slammed by Health Secretary Steve Barclay’s team as a ‘virtue-signalling vanity project’.

The Princess Royal University Hospital in Bromley launched a link bridge last week decorated with an ‘intersex-inclusive flag’ featuring the LGBT rainbow.

The flag is the first mural of its kind on and NHS site and comes after months of criticism from ministers, MPs and patients over health service chiefs giving resources to what the Government labelled ‘waste and wokery’.

Senior executive at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Jonathan Lofthouse, said it ‘adorned the exterior of the link bridge with the Pride flag, a permanent installation celebrating diversity,’ commenting: ‘We’re celebrating permanently.’

However, according to The Telegraph, Health Secretary Mr Barclay did not agree with the move.

A source close to Mr Barclay said: ‘This government is investing record funds in the NHS, including the £6.6billion extra over the next two years announced in the autumn statement.

‘Taxpayers want to see that cash used for cutting waiting lists and caring for patients, not wasted on virtue-signalling vanity projects.’

The trust reportedly brought in a Valentino Vecchietti, an intersex campaigner, to design the walkway.

The trust could not say how much the flag cost.
