Keir Starmer‘s big education speech descended into chaos today as protesters sneaked on to the stage and berated him over green policies.

The Labour leader had started his address in Kent when a man and a woman unfurled a banner behind him and then started interrupting.

Accusing Sir Keir of reversing commitments on environmental policies, the man said: ‘Stop making U-turns Keir.’

The disruption continued for several minutes as Sir Keir pleaded with them to leave, before security came and ushered them away.

Sir Keir was urged to ‘reinstate your pledge for £28billion’ green prosperity plan.

‘Young people want action,’ one protester said. ‘We need a green new deal right now.’

Sir Keir said: ‘Will you just let me finish this and then come and talk to you about it.’

Once they were escorted off stage, the Labour leader tried to make the best of the chaos by telling the audience: ‘I think they may have missed the fact that the last mission I launched was on clean power by 2030 which is the single most effective way to get the green future that they and many others want.’
