Negotiators rushed to the scene following reports a man and a woman were holed up inside the property.

Police allege a 25-year-old man armed with a knife was keeping a woman, 26, captive.

Officers spoke to the pair before specialist police stormed the home around 4pm local time.

The emergency declaration was revoked by police when the man was taken into custody.

He is currently being treated with non-life threatening injuries and is assisting police with their investigations into the incident.

Paramedics were seen at the house with one person being wheeled out on a stretcher with the 26-year-old woman being transported to hospital for observation.

All roads between Bellrick and Peterkin Streets in the Sunnybank Hills area were closed off to traffic and pedestrians.

The house’s owner, Theresa Avison, who sublets a room in the house, told the Courier Mail she was concerned for the people inside.

‘There’s no word to describe my feeling’, she said.

‘I hope no-one is hurt. No one can understand this stress.’
