While Chris Smith is holed-up in rehab dealing with his long-term drinking problem the TV host’s dietician wife is asking her Instagram followers if they are eating enough salad.

Susie Burrell moved out of the couple’s home on Sunday after learning her husband had disgraced himself at the Sky News Christmas party by drunkenly pestering several young female colleagues.

The nutritionist, author and columnist – who also has a degree in psychology – took the couple’s six-year-old twin sons with her.

This week there have been few signs of Burrell’s marital woes on her official Instagram account where she continues to provide recipes and tips on healthy living.

Five days ago Burrell posted a picture of a ‘hangover trolley’ filled with food and drinks she recommended to rehydrate after having too much festive cheer.

While most followers appreciated Burrell’s advice one could not resist taking a shot at her husband as he battles alcoholism and his other personal demons.

‘You better get your husband on this big time or get him off the drink all together I think,’ they wrote.

Smith, who was sacked by Sky News and radio station 2GB on Tuesday, revealed a day earlier he had checked himself into a mental health facility.

The 60-year-old was drunk at a Sydney bar last Saturday when he made lewd comments to female Sky staff members, at least one of whom was left in tears.

Smith has apologised for his conduct, stating he was ‘beyond gutted and devastated’ to have upset the women and blaming his actions on problem drinking.

‘I have dropped the ball and embarrassed many people including those I love most – my family,’ he said. ‘I am very sorry.’

On Tuesday, Burrell shared a recipe for chocolate avocado mousse, a 'delicious healthy treat'. That post drew this message from one supporter: 'So sad for you Susie with all that's going on in your private life. Please stay a strong single woman from now on'

Meanwhile, Burrell has been busying herself by providing regular nutritional advice to her 50,000 Instagram followers.

On Wednesday, she was asking: ‘Are you getting enough salad/vege into your diet these last few weeks?’ alongside a plate of salmon with greens and other meals.

Burrell responded with a praying hands emoji.

Another post on Tuesday suggested high protein, meat-free meals for peri-menopausal women.

There have been plenty of Christmas dietary suggestions and Burrell offered a recipe for cranberry pistachio biscuits which she liked to bake for family and friends every year.

Chris Smith’s three days on the drink

Thursday, December 8: Smith attends Lachlan Murdoch’s evening Christmas drinks at his Bellevue Hill mansion

Friday, December 9: Smith attends a Sky News dinner for hosts and station management at Aria restaurant at Circular Quay (7pm-11pm)

Saturday, December 10: Smith attends Sky News Christmas party at Ivy Sunroom in the CBD. Function runs midday to 5pm. Continues nearby at Establishment and leaves 7.30pm

Smith, who recently bought a house with Burrell, is said by friends to have hit ‘rock bottom’ and as psychologically fragile as anyone has seen him.

He was about to get his own 5pm daily show on Sky and is now jobless less than two weeks before Christmas.

Smith went to three News Corp functions last week, including Lachlan Murdoch’s end-of-year drinks on Thursday and a Sky News dinner for hosts on Friday at Aria.

On Saturday he attended Sky’s main Christmas party at Ivy Sunroom then kicked on to Establishment with workmates.

It is there Smith was accused of touching a young female co-worker and making crude remarks to several woman, including telling one he had seen her holiday Instagram pictures and she ‘had a lot of side boob going on’.

Sky and 2GB immediately launched investigations but Smith’s fate was probably already sealed by his history of getting drunk at work functions and offending women.

He was suspended by 2GB following the station’s 2009 Christmas party where he behaved inappropriately towards several women and tried to kiss a female colleague.

‘I’ve had some terrible problems handling alcohol,’ Smith said at the time, stating he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and alcoholism.

His first wife Alison, the mother of Smith’s oldest two children, briefly left him after that incident but they were later reconciled before parting permanently in 2013.

Smith had previously been fired from his role as chief-of-staff at Nine Network’s A Current Affair after exposing himself at a farewell party in the late 1990s.

He has blamed his behaviour on being bipolar and an alcohol addiction.

‘I have a recurring problem with alcohol… it sends me manic,’ Smith said on Monday.

‘I am in a facility receiving professional help to deal conclusively with my abuse of alcohol and solve this once and for all, without qualification… it can and will be done.’
