Extreme wind warning issued for parts of Australia: Put your car under cover NOW and keep away from trees

Severely damaging winds are set to lash down on parts of Australia’s east coast, with residents urged to park their cars undercover immediately.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned the heavy wind gusts would be felt along NSW’s south coast on Monday morning, lasting well into the night.

Those living in southern Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Eden and Katoomba are all expected to be impacted.

The Bureau said the wild weather was a result of a ‘tightening pressure gradient from a deep low pressure system’ southwest of Tasmania that was producing strong and gusty winds.

Wind gusts of up to 90km/hour are forecast for parts of the Blue Mountains, while gusts would reach up to 100km/hour in the Illawarra region.

In southern Sydney, winds of up to 90km/hour are forecast to lash down over the day.

At about midnight in Nowra, on the South Coast, wind gusts were recorded at 100km/hour.

Winds also lashed down at a speed of 93km/hour in Bellambi, in Wollongong just after 1am on Monday.
