Christmas Day revellers have trashed one of Sydney‘s most beautiful beaches leaving behind a trail of debris, shoes, undies and discarded drug paraphernalia.

Backpackers celebrating on Bronte Beach in Sydney’s ritzy eastern suburbs have been blamed for the shocking scenes that confronted locals on Boxing Day.

The nearby grassy picnic reserve was transformed into an eyesore of rubbish, with abandoned clothes, shoes, towels and blankets dotting the sea of litter everywhere.

Piles of empty nitrous oxide gas cylinders, colloquially called ‘nangs’, were also spotted among the huge spread of garbage.

The gas canisters – normally used in whipped cream dispensers – can give a quick intense high when inhaled.

Elsewhere beer, water and soft drink bottles were left lying along with ditched food and drink packaging and items of clothing, including pairs of high end trainers and sunglasses.

Boxer shorts, t-shirts, backpacks, balls, chip bags, and carrier bags were also spread throughout the park in an ugly vista that stretched towards the horizon.

It sparked fury among locals, with one blasting the partygoers.

‘Appalling, such lack of respect, there should be fines enforced,’ they wrote.

‘This is absolutely disgusting and utterly poor form,’ wrote another in the Bondi Local Loop Facebook group.

One added: ‘Disgusting..Bronte is such a beautiful place. Many people come to enjoy this beautiful beach.

‘Some people don’t have any respect. Only know how to make a big party never known how to clean up their mess.

‘Shame shame shame on you all who left all your belongings and your rubbish.’

Another raged: ‘That is why locals hate backpackers who disrespect their playground. Shame on all the irresponsible people who left that mess.

‘Council will be forced to charge everyone who hasn’t a council rate to use the beach. Shame.’

But one insisted: ‘I sat down there yesterday it was full of Ozzies not just backpackers… clueless.’

The trash shame comes two years after police riot squad officer broke up an illegal Christmas Day party on the same beach, 3km south of more famous Bondi Beach.

Up to 300 people – believe to be mostly British and Irish backpackers – had gathered on the reserve for a huge party despite Covid restrictions in force at the time.

One man was arrested when police swooped to break it up around 5pm amid fears it would become a pre-vaccine superspreader event.

Six years earlier, nearby Coogee Beach was invaded by thousands of drunken revellers on Christmas Day in 2016 who left behind a staggering 15 tonnes of trash.

Lifeguards had to sound the shark alarm three times to get boozed up bathers out of the water to try to prevent any of the drunks from drowning.

Randwick Council branded the incident ‘disgraceful’ and banned alcohol from the beach for the whole summer in response.

‘The public outrage to the devastation of the parks and beach itself on Christmas Day has been quite phenomenal, said Mayor Noel D’Souza at the time.

‘The clear message we’ve received is that we need to give the beach and nearby parks back to all people to enjoy peacefully and safely.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Waverley Council for comment on the latest incident at Bronte Beach.
