Terrifying new bodycam footage has showed a cop grab an assault rifle and run towards a Texas mall while a gunman unleashed a barrage of bullets on shoppers.

Mauricio Garcia, 33, killed eight people including children on May 6 outside H&M in Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, Texas. He was shot dead at the scene.

Horrifying clips now reveal how the first police officer on the scene screamed at onlookers and raced towards the danger in a bid to neutralize the situation.

Multiple deafening gunshots – fired by Garcia at innocent families and children – can be heard ringing out in the background while sirens blare from afar.

The brave officer wearing the bodycam rushes over to the scene, and starts firing bullets at the gunman from behind a pillar. His heroic actions and words ‘I got him down’ were first reported by DailyMail.com.

Bullet casings from his gun can be seen flying on to the ground while he receives information from backup teams.

After shooting at the gunman, the cop says into his radio: ‘Shots fired by police. I’ve got him down.’

The cop then screams into the direction of Garcia: ‘Drop the gun!’

He then repeats: ‘I got him down’ before shouting out loud: ‘Get away from there! Get away!’

The officer continues to run towards Garcia – who by this point is on the ground. The cop continues to shout directions through his radio.

Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey, commenting on the new footage that was released over a month after the incident, said: ‘This video shows how quickly a routine interaction with the public turned into a life-and-death situation.

‘The officer recognized the danger, ran toward the gunfire and neutralized the threat – and for his actions, the Allen community is forever grateful.’

Police decided to release the footage worn by the officer who first responded to the gunfire after a grand jury ruled that the use of deadly force in this instance was justified under Texas law.

The cop, who is unnamed, killed Garcia after he had already shot dead multiple civilians.

A stampede of hundreds of shoppers were seen racing out of the complex while gunfire rained out – as security and police attempted to shepherd them to safety during the terrifying event last month.
