Thieves caught on camera swiping coveted African Grey Parrot from porch of California home – intelligent bird that can imitate human speech is worth $2,500

Shocking doorbell footage has captured the moment two thieves swipe a $2,500 African gray parrot from outside its owner’s home.
A red SUV is filmed pulling up and double parking in front of the Orange County home in Santa Ana.
A grey hooded figure then gets out of the car, grabs the large cage housing the bird – named Luna – from the front cage.
He is helped by his friend as they load the cage into the vehicle before driving off.
The parrot’s owners are now urgently appealing for help to try and reclaim the expensive bird.

A Facebook post by Abigail Ayapantecatl reads: ‘PLEASE share! We are trying to find the thieves who stole my brother’s African Gray parrot.
‘This happened in Orange County- Santa Ana. Our parrot is sick and needs daily medication.
‘She was out in her cage getting some air, as she is an indoor bird, and these 2 men took her in matter of seconds.
‘My brother tried chasing them down but they drove off quickly down.’
She added: ‘Main towards Warner. I’ve attached photos of these individuals. No license plates on their red SUV. We’ve filed a police report but we need help from everyone to spread the word. We’re devastated, we just want our parrot back.’
The family have owned Luna for more than ten years.

The getaway vehicle is believed to be a Ford Excursion
The theft happened March 12 on the 2000 block of S. Sycamore Street in Santa Ana, a Santa Ana Police Department spokeswoman told NBC.
The first male suspect is described as being heavy-set and possibly in his 40s.
He was wearing a charcoal gray hoodie, gray gloves and light gray sweats.
Meanwhile the second suspect, also a man, was wearing a tan bucket hat, black hoodie and dark-colored pants.
Their getaway vehicle is believed to be a Ford Excursion.
African grey parrots are extremely valuable and can cost anywhere between $1,500 and $4,000.
Their most unusual characteristic is that they can mimic human speech.
They have an average lifespan of 50 years.
