Driver’s miraculous escape after train hits a truck and derails – as firies race to prevent thousands of litres of diesel fuel from spilling

A truck driver is lucky to be alive after his vehicle collided with a freight train on a railway crossing in rural NSW.

Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry told Daily Mail Australia firefighters responded to a call on Wednesday morning that a locomotive and carriages had overturned after a train smashed into a truck.

‘The train hit a truck on a level crossing this morning on Canola Way, west of Junee,’ he said.

Twelve carriages were derailed in the incident with hazardous material crews called in to siphon the 20 thousand litres of diesel contained in the fuel tanks.

The fuel spill has been rendered safe and heavy lifting equipment is being brought in to clear the train and make the necessary track repairs.
