  • It is alleged they tortured and killed the cat and disposed of it in a pond

Chilling surveillance footage shows the moment a mask-wearing boy runs down a street with a family cat which was later found dead in a nearby pond.

Police have alleged two boys, aged 12 and 14, stole the cat from a home in Glenwood, in Sydney‘s west at about 4.30pm on March 8.

The cat was allegedly carried into a nearby clearing before being tortured and killed.

The feline’s heartbroken owners checked their security footage after their 17-year-old cat Brandy didn’t come home last Wednesday.

She told 7News everyone in the neighbourhood knew Brandy as ‘the weird cat’ that goes for walks in the park across the road.

Now that very same park brings with it the harrowing memory of the attack.

‘I look out my bedroom window at mum’s house and that’s exactly where she was (allegedly) murdered,’ Bidart said.

Bidart said last Wednesday she drove to her parents home in Glenwood and just had a feeling something was wrong when she heard Brandy was missing, straight away  heading to check the security cameras.

CCTV footage showed mere minutes after Bidart’s mother left the house to go to an appointment, two boys began searching for the cat, under cars and in the garden.

One boy is then seen running off and allegedly saying: ‘You wanna go cat?’.

Some 23 minutes later a boy returns in a hoodie and a face mask before he allegedly snatches the family cat from the front garden.

Bidart said when she watched what ensued next she had to look away.

‘As soon as I (allegedly) saw the first blow to my cat I had to look away,’ she said.

Both boys were charged with torturing, beating and causing death to an animal and disposing of a killed or stolen animal. They were granted strict conditional bail and will appear at a children's court on Tuesday April 4, 2023
